Scooter Riders Beware
More people will take to scooters
Discussion
...may not have the full control...
yes, twist and go scooters are notoriously difficult to ride.
The IAM has produced a special booklet "Safer scootering - how to keep out of trouble on your scooter"
Not "Safer driving - how to not plough in to two wheelers you blind car driving numpty"
Good effort for trying.
When are the Gov. going to tell us tha the main cause of scooter accidents is excess speed?

I've been predicting for sometime that there would be massive motorcycle/scooter fatalities in the first few months after the Ken Charge comes in..
so many people who were fcukwits in cars will now be fcukwits on Scooters and CBs.. and will come a cropper as a result..
but that doesn't matter to Ken..

As a scooter rider for the past 6 years it is often difficult enough to find a free motorcycle bay in central London. I wonder whether Ken is going ensure that the number of these increase with the predicted increase in riders or whether we're just going to get loads of riders endlessly searching for a free space (until they park illegally and alternative revenue is raised in that way).

As a previous scooter rider, and now a motorcyclist, I have to say the biggest threat to scooter riders is themselves.
The fact that you can buy a 50cc that will do 55mph without even having to do a minute's training (if you have a car licence), and jump into the middle of rush-hour traffic, is crazy.
Also, there are a huge number of scooter riders (mainly the besuited types who will account for most of the new riders) treat it like a car on two wheels, i.e. no protective clothing, not paying attention, no regard for other road users.
One of the main reasons I took my direct access was I no longer wnated to be associated with all these accidents waiting to happen.

Sorry Nick; I've just read that the London wardens are getting new motorcycle wheel clamps!
On a different scooter note:
In the last week I have spotted two scooters, at night, with a tail light but no head light. I waved at one of them (a pizza delivery
), and after a bit of mimed altercation, he flicked a switch somewhere, and Lo! there was Light! Waved thankyou.. What's that all about then?
