Am I reading this right?? Surely we're not dumb enough to offer contextually large sums of money for witnesses against UK troops??

One witness at the court martial, Samira Rishek, a Marsh-Arab who had claimed to have been brutally beaten by the soldiers while she was pregnant, admitted to the court it was a "wicked lie".

The court heard that Mrs Rishek, along with other witnesses, was paid $100 a day to give evidence at the trial and that she only agreed to give evidence after being told she would be paid.

Another case of our brave soldiers in the field coming under attack from lawyers looking to make some easy cash.

Exactly how can you trust someone froma 3rd world country when you pay them 100 bucks a day? Thats a lot of money to them. Maybe the law establishment, and media wants their pound of flesh?

How about putting the lawyers on trial that dragged this case up in the first instance. Fecking leeches the lot of them, I don't suppose they are out of pocket, do you .

and I suppose a chav like geezer down the boozer from an upmarket run down council estate would turn down a 100 quid a day and tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth hey?

The same applies, and the point is still valid. If you paid an iraqi 100 bucks a day, they would probably say anything. If they were so concerned they would be witnesses regardless. No doubt the defense team will make full use of this.

Well the whole case has collapsed and the judge rejected it which just proves the whole thing is probably just a stunt , otherwise the prosecution would ve done a better job than this to prepare a case of this importance.

I believe on the news it was reported that no body have ever been presented, or grave. I was under the impression that it was extremely difficult to prosecute someone for murder when no body could be presented as evidence. If that is the case, how the hell did this ever make a court of law......

How long has this been hanging over the soldiers heads? I reckon putting the prosecuting lawyers on active peace keeping duties in Iraq for the same amount of time would be cool. And compensate the soldiers with the same amount of cash that the lawyers have been paid bringing the case on such flimsy evidence.
I also think that the "witnesses" should have any cash they've still got confiscated & are then tried for what they've done, but get jailed in Iraq (not here where we'd have to pay for the lying b*st*rds keep). Or just let the soldiers have the option to beat the crap out of them with immunity from prosecution?
Soldiers are getting enough sh1t in Iraq without this sort of crap happening to them. And the MOD can't understand why numbers in the TA are falling? D'oh.

Yet we pay thousands to our own legal jockies to weedle around and find a little legal loophole to get someone off a very serious crime IN THE UK. Who are the crooks, them or the women in Iraq. And lets face it, not many people anywhere do anything these days for nothing.

Not defending it, just looking at it another way. I am just glad I am not over there with a gun having to make day to day decisions, but as for the beatings, it happened with the Yanks, and no doubt a very minority of these incidents may have included Brits, but lets hope not.
