We're looking at moving away from our leased line to save the £600/month as we're no longer hosting services and don't need the inbound speed.
As we're 5.8km from the exchange, we're apparently (according to BT) about 800m too far away for an ADSL connection.

The other options I've looked into:

two-way Satellite seems expensive to set up and a similar monthly cost as our leased line
one-way satellite is resonable download, but slow modem upload
3G - as we're in a slight dip in the land, looking at the online checkers, we're out of coverage
Dialup is a bit slow

Can anybody think of other options? Do people still use ISDN?

From what I understand RADSL works up to 5.5km and I assume/hope BT would have checked for that when they did the line test earlier today - which failed.

Ah, bugger. I assume the distance rules out things like SDSL?

Duel linked ISDN but still slow at 128k

Satelite prices are coming down but I beleive the latency is poor.

I've just upgraded from ISDN to 512Mb "broadband". It's like chalk and cheese - however did I ever put up with a mere 128Kbps?

The only real option is wireless, if someone is repeating it past your house or dual channel ISDN

When BT et al talk about DSL its all RADSL these days so they will have checked.

Have you got line of site to someone who can get the local dsl connection? If so, I'd suggest paying for a connection in their property, and then wireless it out to yourself. Once you've got the broadband connected, it would be less than £300 for the wireless kit and external high gain aerials.

This is what I'm doing when we move to our new house.

The house is in a dip in the land with nobody else in sight.

You may be in a WDSL wireless area. A few ISPs offer this. Back when BT refused to sell me ADSL I got it for a year. It was pretty good - although ADSL is tons better.
