Well if only one turbo came in on a 996 then it has indeed got issues!

Turbos go wooooooooooOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSHHHHHH

Noisy tappets on the other hand can go clicky clicky, but so can fecked engines, tho thats more clunky clunky

According to popular kids rhyme however, the wheels on the bus go round & round

Hope that helps

Dont recall any different sound from the turbos. The whole engine roars lovely. But I cant hear the indivudual turbos and certainly doesnt sound like a 420bhp sowing machine

Describing sounds is difficult. In my opinion a 996 Turbo sounds highly engineered, deep sounds (above 4000 engine revolutions) and you can not hear any “whine” from the turbos.

The 996TT just doesn't sound good enough in my opinion.
Over 4k revs it has a nice deep but low key rasp but not that great. Under 4k revs its very quiet indeed.
Why oh why Porsche don't sell a sports exhaust I don't know. With production numbers quite high there is a large audience for it.

Oh I can't really hear the turbo's kick in either, no sucking, rasping, wheezing or gasping.

My Turbo sounded like a sewing machine when I got it but it turned out to be the power steering pump bearing - once replaced it was quiet as a mouse !

was the sound coming from the engine bay as soon as the turbo was cicking in?

Pretty much all the time, but went from a sewing machine sound to a metallic nasty sound after a month.

Once fixed the turbos are fairly quiet apart from a slight whoosh on deceleration.

.....and a slight honking sound at 6000 revs - but gone once I fitted Evo dump valves.
