We get loads of repeat subjects, usually "Can an Elise / Exige be used as an everyday car?" or " how do I customise / upgrade my Elise?"

Should we simply post up the link to the most recent discussion or pick it up and go with it (once again).

The problem is that when we get these repeat questions it usually takes us to a new area of discussion.

The problem is that the search system is poor, and people can not find the information simply/quickly.

Take a look at a number of threads and you will find that they change topic. This causes an issue for search.

Also things like a thread may start 'whats the best...' and then go on and to be 'the best elise for every day drive'... ( made up example. )

I see this a lot in the bug reports for my job, what I get done is to have the bug split into its real parts.

What needs to happen, which is too much work for a public board like this, is to get somebody to "pin" specific topics that turn up a lot. And also to take other threads that show up good information for the "pin"ed topics and add them in to the "pin"ed topic.

This way the information is at the top of the forum and easy to find for people.

A good way to do this is to have a non-postable forum. Then have somebody pick the information from the mass of public posts and put the information in an easy to find clean set of threads.

But this would take somebody a lot of time, so does not get done due to cost.

The solution is to keep topics on thread, and think before you post, should this be on a different thread or a new thread.

And remember, what ever we talk about on this thread will be lost in a couple of days. So is not important at all..........

You can bookmark useful threads - I do this and then if I contribute to another new one I can refer back to them.

Sometimes though it's just nice to see where the new one goes - like you say gooby, often they end up addressing questions which haven't been done to death before.

bookmarks are only good when you have read a thread and wish to keep track of it.

It does not solve the search issue and constant re-asking of the same questions, as per the topic of this thread.

I think what S Works is saying is that when we get a repetitive question, you just revert back to your bookmark and post the thread. Then you are free to take the discussions in new directions. Best of both worlds!

At least search on PH works with "AND" words on the content as well as titles, I find it OK (compare to SELOC).

Problem producing an FAQ is maintenance e.g. this new site is terrific www.hubspace.net but how long before it ages like www.elise-faq.info (good site, but needs freshening) ?

Replying with bookmarks is best but also give 'em a fishing rod by suggesting search keywords, e.g. I picked up many of the relevant keywords (HGF, Thermostat, PRT, PRRT) for my recent search fest from the comments in the thread but still missed the exiges topic which was pointed out.
