Just to say what a Great and friendly forum this is on the PH site.

It really has re-sparked my enthusiasm for taking pictures (and prompted me to get a decent DSLR.)

Together with the free and frank advice which is invaluable. I enjoy admiring what everyone posts (no matter how 'good' or 'different' they are) and how they see the world and how they capture the pics. I hope with practice I can come even half way to some of the excellent pics.

Neadless to say this is now the 1st Ph forum I look into when i log on, whareas it used to be about the 5th (does that mean I dont like cars as much now.....

So - What a great group this is ! Thank you. A big pat on the back to everyone who contributes to this site.

Ditto - it's what has triggered my enthusiasm to get back into photography. Now spend more time checking this forum than the car ones (oops, sorry Ted - nevermind, been with your since 'the beginning'). All I have to do is now get my DSLR and get out there and see if I'm any good....

I'll second that! Thing is, there are no rights or wrongs, no limits. I don't like *every* photo posted but the person who took it does, and is proud of it, and that's the main thing. We dip into it as much or as little as we want, snappers, anoraks and all points in-between. That's why you get the endless melting pot of ideas and discussion, at every level, that lasts long after the Griffith forum has gone round in circles three times!

Well said... I had let my photography go in quite a big way until finding this forum and was equally inspired to get snapping again. Watch out though, I forgot just how expensive it can prove to be if you like gadgets and toys, mind you at least film and processing are no longer an issue.

Me too - always the first forum I look at, and have more threads bookmarked than any other forum. Sound advice and friendly. Threads usually stay on topic too. :-)

Particularly interested in the fireworks thread this morning. I'll definitely be having a play with some of those ideas.

So, anyone got any ideas how I can take pictures of fireworks whilst actually letting them off? (I organise a display and do all the lighting of them...Camera on tripod with cable release attached to rocket

Reminds me of a great post over on FM;

"I am never coming back here again for at least a week. You mark my words. I am so tired of people and their pedantic bull. You are all a bunch of losers and I am so over you.

10) I can't stand the complaints about "use the search engine." If someone posts a question that can be found so easily in a search engine, instead of complaining do the damn search if it's so easy and post the links, instead of a complaint.
9) Is my lens a good copy. Yes, it is. You are just a crappy photographer. Buy a book and get the hell off of the website.
8) Should I buy this lens? Don't ask me. Do you want it? Can you afford it? Do you need to hide it from your wife? If you are going to ask the question, post all the important details like a copy of your last 5 years tax returns, a photo of your wife, and details of your prenup. If not, don't waste my damn time.
7) Have some respect for your words. U think u are kewl. I think English is your second language ( you think ) or you failed third grade, or you are still in third grade. Buy a dictionary you idiot.
6 ) Dramatic exits. If you want to leave, just go. If you have something to say on your way out, just say it, don't allude to problems, spill your guts if you have them. If you are leaving, what the hell do you care if you step on some toes on the way out? Provide a detailed list of your bitches, include at least 10 examples.
5) People who post requests for critique and the photos are absolute crap. What do you honestly expect people to say. Do you think you have no replies because the photo is so great that there isn't anything a person could possibly say? Please buy a film camera so you won’t post your photos on the internet.
6) People who have absolutely no counting skills. They are all over the place and they disgust me. You missing any fingers? No, then what the hell is your problem? Buy an abacus or quit posting stupid enumerated lists.
4) Sigs that have a list of over 5 items in them. You got that little in your life that you need to show off your kit? Why don't you put your dick length in there too? Add a few inches while you are at it. Why don't you simply put in “B+H catalog, pages 7-49 and 52-140” instead of listing your gear separately. It would be easier for you, and then I could order all the same stuff because you are such a great photographer. That would save us a lot of reading and bandwidth. Some of us are only using a 1200 baud modem. Best examples are found in posts where a question like " Should I use Av, Tv, or green box mode all the time?" and the poster lists $10K worth of equipment. Are you that stupid?
3) People who bump their threads. If it was worth posting to, it would be, if not, get over it. Take a creative writing class. Learn some jokes. If you are compelled to bring your sorry post to the top of the list ask a friend to hit the thread. Bumping it yourself tells me that not only is it a lousy post, but you have no friends. Damn, are you hoping to get a reply, or to make people feel sorry for what a loser you are? Good suggestion: Get a dog. It will love you as long as you feed it.
2) Complaints that Fred Miranda is making money on his website. Do you earn money? Do you think we should bitch that you are making a living? Is it a bad thing that people earn a living? Do you think we should all quit our jobs and run around with flowers in our hair. We tried that once and all it did was end a war. It didn't stop the Fred Mirandas from making a living.
1) People with less than 10 reasons.
0) People who refuse to post their name to their threads or in their sigs. I bet you losers also answer a phone and say "what?" instead of "hello." If you have any pride in your words sign your damn name to them. If you are afraid of an axe murderer finding out your true identity then use your neighbor's name. At least that way anal-retentive repliers can get a mental handle on your persona, and you can be polite at the same time.

I am so out of here. U all suck. I hope all of your batteries leak in your flashes.

Paul"

First forum i visit each day. Costs me a fortune coming on here. I'm not a member of any other photography forums, as I find many of them too up their own arses, plus I'm not good enough to post on most of them!

Only other photog site i visit regularly is dpchallenge, you see some cool stuff on there.

PS Come off it Steve, I might smell, but I'm not sure you can pick it up from hundreds of miles away, the Mrs. assures me it's not that bad.

Yup... Whenever I go on here I suddenly get the urge to go out and take pictures.

Then I realize I need to get the dust off my sensor first...

I'm not sure why, but this is the only camera forum that I tend to look at.

You get real world advise from people who use the equipment, not the silly journo's who just get to look at it.

This is now the only PH group I look at, having migrated from GG a long time ago, before it split up into 2.

I like it here because it is friendly, lively and all in good faith. Even the "Nikon/Canon war" is not serious and a bit of a laugh (though on some other sites you'd think it was some kind of religion).

People of all ages, with all kinds of photographic equipment doing what they should do - taking pictures and not being anal about it.

Long may it continue.

And I must agree with the comments above that this forum has caused me to spend a fortune but have a good time with it.

Thumbs up to us all

Perhaps we should award ourselves a Sniffycat. Any chance 406 could knock something together?
