Judging by the fact that we have some obvious enthusiasts on PH, can we have a discussion on some good beers?

I like a nice real ale once in a while, so thought we could have a discussion.

Obviously the choice will vary dependant upon location due to varying tastes nationally, but what do you like that is reasonably accessible to the masses without being "Tetleys" and other such muck

Personal choice would be Timothy Taylors Landlord or a decent pint of Black Sheep in a pub. Bottled would be Abbott or Bombardier (just to confuse with a north/south divide)

What's your choice?

My dad has a mate who's a real ale buff so I am also fishing for Xmas pressie ideas-a few bottles and he's a happy man

Problem is you rarely get a discussion on topics like this, just a list of what people drink, which is all very well I suppose if it gives you new names to conjure with.
I do like Tim Taylor's too.

This Banoffee Bitter is completely fabulous, my favourite real ale by a mile. Such a different and distinctive taste.

Just get yourself along to the Chappel beer festival at the East Anglia Railway Museum(Essex)....youll think you've died and gone to Heaven.Top Gear did a feature where James May took along an old Aston V8...the idea being it was as British as our beer...couldnt agree more. There were over 450 beers last year.Thats where I discovered Orkney Skull Splitter....well named it is

Favourite beer is Caledonian Deuchars IPA.

Relatively light (3.8%) so you can have a session without falling
over.

Nice and hoppy, with a nice light malt as well. I'm not so keen on very heavily
malted (or chocolate malted) beers, stout-like.

Failing that, a variety of similar bitters - Wadsworth 6X, Old Speckled Hen,
Bishop's Finger...

Like a Weissbeer occasionally too, or a Blonde style Belgian beer.

Or 16 pints of Wifebeater and a bucket...

Not fussed... Absolut is decent price, and hits all the right buttons. if I want decent vodka though, I buy Chopin! Its the daddy! Its a spud vodka, but it tastes great! www.chopinvodka.com/main.htm
