I got my tamora back after 4 mth wait with a new engine from rebuild at tvr.. all seems well excpet for a whining noise which increases with revs and as revs falls disappears. and obv as revs increase seems consistent with revs as if something is tight etc(cars had everything renewed except crank and pistons

im being told that sagaris suffers same whine and that cause my engine is a new rebuild this is how all engines coming from tvr now.. yet car never made this whine before !!

anyone any ideas or comments from newer cars if whine disappers etc?

£5000 for engine rebuild and car exhaust rasping out from clamps upon picking it up.. back to dealer..£100 for clamps later after just spending £5000 on car when exhaust didnt leak b4 engine blew up!!

i need to get into this dealership lark sounds like licence to print money !!

Sounds like it could be the timing chain, it will ease a touch, however if you are still
not happy with it get it adjusted at the 1000mile service

Mine had a TVR Power re-build about 10,000 miles ago, and it's had that same supercharger type whine ever since.

Don't worry about it - I quite like it!
Another bit of character IMHO

I should have taken a picture of my CAM cover, the chain had been rubbing on the underside making that sewing machine "whirr" TVR Power rebult it twice, now this may just be a cast defect (to thick) that causes it, but they shouldn't "whirr or whine" IMHO. Simple to take the cover off and check, you can always smarten it up while its off too!. It's sealed with silicone £5 from an automotive supplier. 19 Allen (hex)keys to do, and 12xM10 nuts under the speed six logo. It's easy!

It would be good to see if it's a common "problem", and you can check your cam, and finger followers for wear while your there! Even go a bit further use feeler guages under the finger and shims if its tappity. 8-10 tho inlets, and 10-12 exhaust (TMS mechanic told me).

Has anyone ever wondered how they change the shims, without removing the engine, after all how do you lift the cams out without taking the chain off? I was told, and its shocking!

Do they split the chain?

Here you go.. You can't slacken the chain / or split it, as the front pulley needs to be removed to gain access to the chain cover. This can't be taken off while it's in the car!!!

Thks guys. yes supercharger whine is best descrition of noise and seems likes its nothing to worry about this end .. since tvr given me 2 yrs warranty on repair i guess should'nt be too concerned this end as i'll monitor it as said as been told to get engine serviced at its 18k service which is 2000 miles from rebuild so see if still there

thanks also.. it was mechanic said sagaris made similar noise.. so hence why asked re sagaris's..weird when tvr mechanic doesnt know what it is !! fills u with hope

kinda wondering what i paid all that money for !!

Is this on the basis that the chain will be worn by the time you come to do this so it will have a little flex in it? Does seem very strange, but I guess it works in practice.

sideways mostly

Thanks!, I would have been better of polishing the inside of the sump, you cant see it in a Tuscan, it has a cover over it all!

You can slacken the timing chain off allowing the cam to be raised enough to do the shims at the back of the engine, after taking of the caps of course. You can just make out the tensioner nut to do this in the picture, its on the front cover, follow the line of the offside cam to the front cover.

Jay - You're right, you can slacken it off, but cant get the CAMS out. With the caps off you can get to number 1 shims OK too. However the TVR mechanic told me not to slacken it off as it holds the CAM up out of the way. Loosten the M10 nuts slowly and equally so the shaft doesn't bend to the stage the caps can be removed.

ill try keeping the tension next time although didnt seem to cause any problems backing it off, concur with backing all the caps of gradually.

I found the only shims I couldnt get to with out lifting the cams were the two rear shims right at the back of the engine, think the access is even worse on the cerb than the tuscan though

Rodger - my rebuilt Tuscan engine also emits this slightly, even after 2k post-rebuild. As a matter of interest, how did you manage to get a 2yr warranty on the rebuild as I have been led to believe it is only 1 year?

after carry on i had with dealer and tvr as my camshaft lobes were worn and cars fully serviced and only done 15k after all hassle tvr gave me two yr warranty although 1 mth has elapsed as dealer took 1 mth to get engine in car lol so im actully waiting on one mth being added as not my fault dealer took so long !!

hell dealer sorted exhaust on friday and saturday dammed thing near fell off had to go to local garage half bracket bolts not on car,, and i paid for that too after 5k for rebuild and then 100 for exhaust clamps and cant fit exhaust back right !!

makes u wonder what they really do with them..tell u one thing
