fuel smell

I'm getting smell of fuel in my 2000 450, no obvious leaks. As a relatively new tvr owner is this a common problem and if so has anybody got any ideas as to where I should start looking. Thanks

Is it from start-up? Cold? Idling on the spot or driving along?

Check the fuel cap. Also, pull the bit of carpet that covers the rear vents and top of the fueltank away (from the boot), and make sure the jubilee clips are all nice and tight.

Could be a blocked breather, also know as the carbon canister! IIRC it's in the front passenger wing.

I had a split petrol tank

Leaked into the boot.

hello i often get a smell of fuel from start up,i dont worry to much .....if i smelt it all the time i might look into it!!rob

Quick comment,Mines 3 months old and had a ECU prob when I bought it,reaked of petrol then.Now fixed but I'd be causious about lighting a match in the boot! Normal?

IMHO any fuel smell should be checked and cured immediately. I dont think there should be any at all as there are a whole host of things that could cause a spark and well, the consequences are too terrifiying to consider......
