What car for 6months??

Hi,
Im looking to get change my E36 M3 and change cars as im leaving the country in approx 6 months. It will be a daily car doing approx 9k miles in 6months, budget of ~18k. Am i looking at a £10k loss going with a cerb??
So which car would you choose?? Obviously im posting this on the site cos after taking one out for a test drive on sat i really really want one (see low milage cerb thread).
Any thoughts gratefully recievied

I would seriously worry about not being able to sell it on after 6 months.
But, you only live once, so either get the cheapest you can get hold of and pray nothing goes wrong, then ebay it and accept a small loss... or get an immaculate one and pray a dealer will bite your hand off for a small loss?

i get what you mean about the twisted logic, if they say its cheap, i always conjure up thoughts of impending doom.
same with when they say--just serviced,,, i see the tvr mechanic saying to him `Engines on its way out`...
I guess in all actuality it doesnt matter what the circumstances are, if its cheap its cheap and its if expensive its expensive... just get an indy to take a look at it for you before you buy.

Thats exactly how i felt after taking out the low miler Cerb!! Was in heaven.
Thought id be 'sensible' and ask for thoughts from the site, but was shocked at the thought of losing £10k in 6 months

I felt i was getting a good deal...in 2 months ive had a new battery, had to get the alarm control box recoded (my fault) and various little niggles with the induction system and vibrations--which i fixed myself.
Some people have these cars and almost have nothing go wrong with them, yet some people have absolute nightmares and it costs them thousands.
I will admit that you may struggle to sell it in a short period of time without knocking some serious money off the asking price, yet you may get rid straight off.
I will say that when buying one of these cars, if your life will depend on it running everyday and the occasional slap across the wallet will make you cry then keep away.
buying the Cerb is never financially sound, although it is unlikely to cost you 10k-- we just like to give worst case scenarios. - you could buy a porker privately and the engine could blow--costing you similair amounts.
My advice to you, if you are still interested, is to get an indie to source a good V8 one for you privately and just be aware that it might not sell in the first week its on `trader`..you might have to knock it down some.
but hey--- is there anything else that can toast everything on the road, that looks awesome and that sounds awesome.
I think buying mine was the best thing ive ever done and i get an enormous buzz out of it everytime i get in.

Couldn't really nail it cos of the road conditions, but the noise and grunt of it was awsome
My M3 is good the M5 was better but the Cerb is in a different league, it makes you feel alive!!!

its like having a pet Lion, looks awesome and gives u uber street cred when its on a lead and roars, but you just know one day soon its gonna turn round and maul you to death....

I am so surprised Peters car hasn't sold.
I dropped my price (not that low) and still had nothing for about 3 weeks. Then suddenly I had about 9 calls in a weekend, with 3 viewings and another 3 wanting to come the week after. The 2nd guy to look at the car out of that had it inspected and left a deposit, he's coming to collect it when I get home from work.
I would go with the 'buy cheap' method. When you want to sell just sell it to a dealer for a quick no fuss deal. Most you would lose in that case would likely be 2-4k for the sale plus a couple of k tops for servicing. Unless you were really unlucky.
Usual disclaimers apply. Not a mechanic. Buy at your own risk, etc!!!
I always wanted a Cerby and then bought one, Don't think I will ever sell it now which could be a problem for you if you feel the same LOL in 6 months time you won't want to sell.
If I knew I was leaving the country in 6 months time and wanted a toy PERSONALLY I would buy a low mileage Early Escort Cosworth, the early models have the large turbo and aren't going to drop in Value at all over the 6 month period, which is always nice
