Im just curious about your opinions. A guy i work with has a UK 360. Over lunch we were discussing car residuals. He got the car in 2002 when it was a year old. He wants to keep it for 3 more years and then flog it but he reckons it will be worth just £40k, is he being unrealistic to think the car will be worth that little.

His main argument was that there at alot more of these on the road than previous generations when less were made.

Anyway, just interested to hear what you think!?

Depending on mileage, he's probably being quite realistic (unlike many exotic buyers).

Couple of factors to consider:

1) Alot more 360's made then any previous model.
2) In 3 years time most will be in the second hand market.
3) Will be alot of F430's around in 3 years time.
4) Probably a F430CS by then aswell and maybe a facelift to the 430.
5) The replacement of the 430 will be on the horizon.
6) 5 year old Gallardos' DB9's, 911's, etc to compete with.

Well early G cars will be ~5 years old. Well out of Warranty. Quite a few produced by that time. 40k may still be a bit low for those. Although you never know.

The problem is if you need to wait for the car to hit 40k, can you afford to maintain it? If so, then yes, there will be alot of bargains about in 3/4 years time.

My good lady agreed that for my 30th i can use some of our saving to treat myself. I picked 40k from the air as to be honest if i spent more than that i would feel very guilty - it still seems alot of dosh to have sitting on the drive for 5 days out of 7!

Maintaining it should be okay as it will be a second car, and i wouldnt have thought it would cost more that 5k or 6k to keep on the road per year (or am i being unrealistic?)

Click the Verdi banner at the top of this page Mark, service prices for most Ferraris/Lambo's.

Not bad, thanks for that chris. Doubt i would be doing more than 6K per year, so worse case a service, new clutch and rubber would be well below.

Best start saving!

No 5/6k a year is probably ok.

Just pointing out, these cars are not the bargain most people think. You also take a risk buying them out of warranty. They are still low production cars and as such things can and do go wrong. And if/when they do they can cost as much as the car itself.

When you do come to buy, get yourself an after market warranty. Research it well as they are all hit and miss. But a good one will atleast protect you against common problems. And hopefully ensure that you never reach the position where your stuck with a car you cant afford to repair.

Lifes full of risks. Just makin sure you go into this one with your eyes open.

I prefer to buy my cars new, with warranty. That has its down sides aswell. Expensive and high depreciation. And obviously it takes longer to afford your dream car.
