MS Access 2K and XP

Can anyone explain why access running under XP does not display any data from the second data set in union queries? I've run the same database on my other machines running Win98 and there's no problem? Just XP. Other database apps I have with SQL2K and Access 2000, and VB have no problems at all under XP. Just XP and standard Access 2000 have this annoying problem, in the second data set fields it displays weird characters like ӾR, but it will calculate the totals correctly in a report, whilst displaying "error" in the field boxes.

Is this a known error that has a patch (can't find one on MS)?
