Have been looking for a Turbo 2 and have noticed that there seem to be a huge range of prices £20K to 40K with the difference based, apparently on milage. I can understand that a low milage car has a higher (perceived) value but as the P cars generally last pretty well I dont undertand why the premium for low miles seems so high. Now as the owner of a high milage (but great condition)964 a high miler wouldnt normally bother me one bit but is there anything about the Turbo that make higher milage a particular issue ?
On the basis of experience I'd avoid a very low miles car that's been standing around a lot. I knew this was the case for my car - as bought - and factored in all the repairs and replacements that would be needed in the price I was prepared to pay. Everything worked as expected i.e. lots of the expected things needed repairing or replacing. Since the car started to be used regularly as intended but also well looked after...well say no more and fate can stay untempted.
Buy on condition, spec, and care-of-owners, not mileage alone. A car that's been cared for well and used as intended will almost certainly be more fun and more reliable than a concours fairy. Unless you like fairies

Its probably because there are two versions of the Turbo 2.
The 3.3 engine (90-92 I think) which was built in quite large numbers and so commands usually 15-20k for LHD and 20-25k for RHD and then the much much rarer 3.6 engine (which I believe is a substantially different car) for 93-94 which is circa 25-30k for LHD and 30-40k for RHD.

Not far wrong on the prices but at the risk of upsetting some folk (nothing personal) the 3.3 Turbo 2 is considered by many to be one of the finest turbos Porsche ever built, the same isn't often said for the 3.6 though both are over-engineered in a way not repeated since.
What an unbiased view. Indeed the turbo 3.3 has all the advantages of everything learned from the 930 and all the advantages of the coil sprung 964. The 3.6 is just trouble really finally sorted by the time the 993 TT came about. 965 3.3s have a weakness that the studs fatigue and allow the heads to let go but this is easily fixed provided you don't employ dickheads to do it. 3.3 turbos can do loads of miles and are easily upgraded with simple mods rather than major ones.
Look on Pauls site he has 3 for sale.
2x 3.3 Turbos and 1x 3.6
I bought my 3.3 T2 from him a year and a half ago and its a cracking car.

The price difference is the RHD 3.3 is around £25 to £30k and the RHD 3.6 is £35-£40k and rising due to its rarity and extra 40bhp taking it to 360bhp.
LHD are c£7-10k cheaper and a bargain over hereif you can find one.
Northways has a RHD 3.3 and a LHD 3.6(thats not on his site yet), both negotiable around £26k

If you can find a "good" turbo 2 3.3 for less than 20k then buy it LHD/RHD, be careful though
A good 3.3LHD will command a minimum of 22k, this will be low mileage full service history etc.
LHD spec usually come with twin airbags which means it will have the later 993 dash layout.
In terms of performance there is little difference between 3.3 or 3.6, i have driven both, 3.6 has a little more mid range, but hey they are both flying machines and the nicest of the 911 turbo's especially from a looks point of view. Bloody awesome vehicles!
