I'm on the knife edge of buying my first TVR - a Tuscan mk2. Absolutely unbelievable thing and I'm really excited about it. While I was test driving one I noticed a key inserted in the dash to the right of the centre console and my dealer told me that was to completely cut the battery power. He said that if I left the car for a few weeks (maybe while on holiday) I should "plug it in" to stop the battery going flat.
WTF?!
I can see the alarm/immobiliser and electric door mechanisms might need a trickle to keep them alive but a flat battery after 3 weeks (which is what he suggested) sounds ridiculous.
Do I need to plug it in?
What do I use to do this?
Will switching this key off solve the problem?
Will my alarm/immobiliser still work?
Etc, etc.
All your thoughts greatly appreciated.

Buy it! OH

Don't worry about the battery, Take it on holiday with you! I did this year and will again next year I hope.

Not too sure of the foibles on the Mk 2 Tusc, but someone will be along shortly.

(BTW no need to double/triple post, you'll get your Tuscan answers in here.)

Hi McChuck

The key cuts the battery power to all of the car electrics, except for the alarm/imobiliser. I leave it in most of the time, but if I park in a city centre, or car park, side of road etc, I turn it and take it out, especially if the roof is off. It does not effect the alarm/imobiliser.

As for the battery, my Mk2 S has been at HL Gorners for nearly a month now, (picking it up this weekend)having its paintwork looked at and new pod display fitted, so I will find out if not using it for 4 weeks has effected the battery.

As for the car as a whole, go buy one, it is bloody fantastic, build quality is great and I have had no problems with the car (except paintwork!)

My Tuscan 2S is on a trickle feed supplied by the TVR Centre when garaged, I have left it without the feed for up to 3 weeks without problems. Go for it, you won't have any experience quite like it!

I always connect up the Accumate when the Tuscan is left for more than a few days, keeps the battery topped up & can keep the alarm /imobiliser active without fear of the battery going flat.
