I'd be glad to get an "e" replacement, extra capacity!

Think i'm being a bit simple but...my battery is an EN-EL3 and has a number of 4AAL which appears in the list.
However the site says -

"How can I tell if my EN-EL3 battery should be returned?

1. Confirm that your battery is of type EL-EL3. Please note
EN-EL3a or EN-EL3e batteries are not affected by this defect. "

My battery is not an EL-EL3...its a EN-EL3....but not an a or e....

So should it be returned??

Cheers
Simon

I think the EL-EL3 bit is a typo

Mine is affected too

From the support site:
Your Nikon EN-EL3 battery will be replaced free of charge with a new EN-EL3a or a new EN-EL3e battery within approximately 5-10 working days of receipt. The EN-EL3a and the EN-EL3e may be freely substituted for the EN-EL3 in all cases. Please note that in the case of high demand, returns may take longer.

So two weeks average, might take longer. And just how are we supposed to take photos without a battery?

Edited to add: Useless website. It says to 'follow the [online] procedure' but simply gives a link to support, without saying what the procedure is. Hmmm.

Nikon say:
My EN-EL3 is from the affected batch. How can I get it replaced?
Please go to www.europe-nikon.com/support and follow the on-line procedure.

Has anybody found this "on-line procedure"?

The article about it only says:
"Instructions on how to apply for a replacement battery are given below."
"If your battery has one of the following batch numbers it should be returned to Nikon for replacement."
"Alternatively, call us on one of the following numbers which are charged in country at national rate."

That hardly makes an "on-line procedure", that's a phone number!!

Mine's a 44AP so no freebie for me. But if your battery is affected and you can't be without one for 1/2/3 weeks, I'll send you mine (I have a spare). You can then send yours to Nikon and get a free EN-EL3e, then forward it to me. You therefore don't get any interruption of use, and I get a battery which works in the D200. Owzat?

I had no joy finding an online procedure, so I phoned the support number.
They add the battery to your profile as a seperate item and say they will contact you when the new batterys are ready. They then send you a S.A.E to return the battery in.
So I think you only send your battery off when they have avaliable stock, which hopefully means it won't be gone too long....

It's poor that they do not provide you with the new battery (and SAE) before you return the 'faulty' one IMO.

Then again, now's better than ever for you Nikon lads to buy a backup battery

If they don't get the old one back first, they have no proof that yours is one of the affected ones. BTW generic EN-ELS are plentiful on eBay for <£10.

I got the same - it isn't exactly a slick system, is it? I wondered if it was the same poor chap (Sebastian De Prado, struggling a little with his command of english - couldn't tell his "J" from his "G" ) dumped in front of the 'phone to deal with all the calls taht'll come in. He has my sympathy!

Mind you I take the point that they can't send out a replacement until they've got yours in their hand. Mine happily runs on an aftermarket spare - in fact I'm pretty impressed with the battery life as it is, I think it's been in there for about three weeks on that one and still showing a full tank!

It will, but it might still be 85% gone, such is the way of Li-Ion

Just like the wonders of CR2 batteries

I just got the shipping label... now I need to find some packing material... I didn't quite figure out how to get the free stuff.

People just wouldn't return the faulty one though. Not sure I would either - 2 batteries for the price of 1

Update!

I've just received an e-mail which, if I've read it correctly , suggests that a new battery is in the post. I haven't had to return the old one yet. Email says I should receive a PP envelope for its return but should update via a website link (where have we seen that before ) if, for any reason I am unable to do so!
