Not the female/Male variety ime afraid ,there is a suggestion on "Website Feedback" about a model forum if there are any of you that share an interest, wether its a copy of your pride and joy or a fully fledged battle layout, train layout, learning how to make moulds for white metal work to fabricate your own style of model, furnishing or ornaments ,planes, trains, cars, trucks or wether its trying to find a "die cast" scale version of you fav vehicle, where the model fayres are, best shops,suppliers... then post your support if not then nothing ventured nothing gained.
Thanks.

I would like to get into model making. I suppose once I mastered that I could get into super-model making.

I'm currently making a concerted effort to get back into kit-bashing.

So I'd certainly be up for a Model Forum - cars and plane (and spacecraft) discussions welcome.

Great idea,i have some old airfix in plastic bag kits in my collection in the loft, ive noticed that more modellers seem to be turning to white metal for some reason.

I think computer "virtual" modelling is too far removed from traditional wood/plastic/metal/resin modelling for the two to share a common forum. However, it could merit a forum of its own, or the odd thread now and then.

White metal has been a traditional car modeling medium for decades. Over the past 20 years or so it has also become a common aircraft modelling tool, especially for accessories like ejector seats, machine guns and undercarriage components. Resin aircraft models are also very common now, although they are fairly expensive. Plastic is still by far the favourite basic scale model material.

A forum for modelling enthusiasts of all ranges and interests to share their particular interest, tips,Fayre information,Die cast location for a particular/any marque, plastic, metal, wood, moulds, still, motorised, radio controlled, cars ,trucks, motorbikes, trains, boats, gliders, planes, rockets, swaps, plans of models, scalectrics, minimoto,,,all scales...the list is endless.

I might be the only one to show an interest in model funfairs but then their might be others on here that could guide me on making moulds, building electrical motors driven by steam ,painting tips and how to make scale tranfers.

Model making can be a very relaxing and very rewarding pastime, plus you have something to show for all your efforts at the end of it, inlike computer games etc. Some of our kits, if made well, can fetch well over 20 times the original kit price at auctions too!
Have just finished designing Nelson's Flagship, HMS Vanguard (74), will post a couple of pics later if you like?
I have been asked to design a Sopwith Camel too, at 1:10th scale!!! Should be fun!

I'm getting back into this after many years when a friend started his own business moulding and selling 1/152nd scale pewter vehicles. So another vote from me.

Cheers

Predictable responses (from some)

Do any girls make model kits? I know of only one, and she's an engineer.

Heres a slightly off topic question for you.

My grandfather used to build model steam engines, the working ones on 3.5" scale. In a few years I will track down the three that were sold outside the family to bring them back, especially Britannia. No idea where she is now so that'll be a job and a half on its own as the buyer moved away shortly afterwards.

However, in the will many years ago I was left with his first model, a fully working steam traction engine. It was built in the early 70s from scratch, and I remember it being steamed up when i was a child and actually driving the it.

Where would you send such an item to get a little bit polished up and its boiler certified for the occasional use again as it would be great to see it running every couple of years. Seems a shame that all this work was done but it hasn't been steamed in years.
