I have a '98 996 Carerra with a Becker CR11, Porsche badged (Sony)6CD changer and Posche Sound Upgrade (Nokia!). I want to replace the head unit with a CD / DAB / unit with MP3 input. I have seen a new Sony model that looks a possibility and should drop straight in to the existing system. Has anyone got any advice on compatible products and any specialist / installer recommendations (London and Essex area)? I'm generally happy with the Porsche audio (although I have heard that others don't rate the OEM upgrade). I previously had a Bose system in an Audi TT and the Porsche OEM system compares well. The only niggle is that the speaker grids resonate with heavy base. The car is my daily driver so I don't mind spending on the audio if the resulting convenience and sound improvement is worth it.

Not quite a direct answer, but I had my 996 super duper Porsche enhanced audio system removed for a custom install. Main reasons were to get a tape player (I still use a lot of cassettes) and to improve the sound quality.

I found the supplied uprated system poor quality sound wise, especially the bass problem with the Nokia door speakers.

The replacement was Alpine CD/Tape/ Radio head unit, CD, CDRW/MP3 autochanger, aux input for I-River MP3 and Ogg player, Genesis amps, TL Audio speakers. All hidden away so it looks stock except for the Head unit. Huge improvement in the sound quality.

Installed by the Sound Gallery in High Wycombe, they did an excellent job.
