Chimaera for S3?

I am thinking, due to financial reasons, of changing my '95 Chim 5.0 for an earlier Tiv - most likely one of the S series. I was wondering if anyone has experience of both Chims and S's? And if they could advise as to whether or not this is worth doing. I have heard that the Chim is a far more refined drive than the S's...
