All,

Many , many moons ago I was dreaming of affording a series 1 elise. Now I've stayed in, saved up and took finance and I can afford a series 2 (better looking i think).

My question is; Does the RaceTech option on the S2 include a cat1 alarm AND immobiliser? I checked on www.elises.co.uk and it seems to suggest that only the Sports Tourer came with both and therefore, presumably the RaceTech has a cat2 one or the other?

However, spoke to Christopher Neils in Northwich and they say that both RT and ST have cat1 everything? I've searched through the archives of this forum and can't find the answer to this so if any RT owners can enlighten me, I'd be grateful. (I can't afford to have anything less than cat1 all round for insurance purposes, but don't start me on that......)

Anyways, cheers in advance!

at s2 launch (2001) both Race Tech and Sports Tourer 'packs' had alarm and immobiliser included.
Standard car (ie non RT or ST) only came with immobiliser although the alarm could be added as an extra.

I've got a Race Tech and the alarm has no sensors for the boot or service hatches. I think this makes mine a Cat 2. A Cat 1 would have these sensors I think.

IIRC Cat 1 & 2 define the combo of Alarm & Immobiliser.

Cat 1 = Alarm + Immobiliser
Cat 2 = Immobiliser only

All Elises have the passive immobiliser, the Alarm was an option fit for the S1 and IIRC again, std on S2. As yours is a special car MJK (ex press car isn't it?) perhaps it's a bit different from the production models?

The standard S2 only came with an immobilser, my Sports Tourer has a cat 1 Meta Alarm Systems alarm and immobilser. Later S2's have a Cobra system.

I'm pretty sure it was also part of the Racetech package. MJK is a unique car and may be slightly different?

Yep I think you're right. I had to replace the alarm earlier on in the year as the car got nicked. There was a lot of messing about as they were unsure what alarm it had.

It's got a META alarm, with seperate fobs. Apparantly, all other S2's have the fob built in to the key?

Ya my meta alarm has the fob built into the key. But I'm pretty sure the totally boggo S2 didn't have an alarm, I think it says so in the handbook (that the alarm is optional equipment).

I have a 05 111R and I have seperate Key and Alarm fob.

The key does has a light built in it though, so that makes up for it

Thanks for the info all. However, I've solved my own problem by buying a sports tourer instead, which definitely does have alarm and immobiliser....and a hard top....and a tracker.

It's currently waiting for a "Essentials Plus" RAC inspection on Thursday and I should be getting it this weekend. I'm so excited, it's embrassing...

Anyway, I'll take pics as soon as I've got it and worked out how to use my digital camera. Is there a Liverpool / Cheshire brnch of a Lotus owners club BTW?

Cheers!
