I have taken my chim 5L in and will be getting it back at the start of December with the Taraka upgrade and some nitrons. Mine was already a quick car compared to other 5Ls that i have owned/tested but power says that the Taraka will increase performance even more!!!! I was thinking of going the whole hog and getting a total de-cat, rolling road set up and Taraka + but they advised me that it will be very peaky and as i like the low down grunt i decided against it. So fingers crossed. in the mean time take a look at the
V8upgrade vs Tamora forum.

Seasiders numbers are way better than a Taraka (bonker torque) and Taraka type BHP.

For 3k of a taraka, I get a wilder cam (keep the std lifters) and ACT Plenum and Good AP Brakes - that would be about 4k. An be a better car for similar cash. If cash not an issue find out what seasider did & brakes then Ohlin's, LEDA's or Nitrons.

Having had this done, i would not do it again. I was expecting, quote, "320 bhp, proper bhp, all our Tarakas do this". All i got was a car that was "snappier" but really rough below 2500 rpm. I then went the ACT, MA chip, better but i still need to get it back, its not right, but they know i have no time. The guy i sold my throttle body to, thought it added 20 bhp. So buy the throttle body and see if you are happy. Heck of a lot cheaper than the 7500 i have now spent.

When i looked into modding mine i thought the taraka seemed way over priced compared to what independant tuners could offer. For around £1.5k,v8d will sell and fit all the metal bits of their stage 3 kit.Just under £2k(i think) will include a tornado chip,if your keeping the lucas ecu. This kit will give more torque and bhp than a taraka, your just not paying for anything other than tuning parts, whereas with the taraka you get less tuning parts and a good part of your cash goes on rebuilding bits.
If your engine is healthy, then i think a lot of your hard earned is wasted on the taraka imho.

Agree with Mongoose. If you don't need the engine rebuild then go for the well proven ACT/V8DevCam/Injectors/MarkAdams route. This gives a very noticable improvement in performance for reasonable money and you can do it in stages. You will also meet some pretty knowledgable and interesting people along the way!

Fully agree. V8D uses better/stronger engine parts too.

I drove Dom's Taraka Chimeara back in September,he let me borrow it for the day.As a comparison i would say its as quick as a standard Tuscan.

It's probably very quick and I heard more positive stories about the Taraka upgrade.

However, and I don't mean to show off, my Griff with a V8Dev engine is as quick as a standard Tuscan too, or maybe even quicker; it put out 350 bhp/380 lbs on the Austec dyno and it wasn't even run in properly. This is what V8Dev/Mark/ACT/Austec etc can do. (of course it doesn't have the handling of the later TVR's but that's another subject).

I guess it's a matter of comparing what you get from each for how much.

Without trying to sound derogatory,if Doms car had the normal taraka package on a 5.0litre engine then theres no way youd keep up with a tuscan with just these mods, not even a 3.6 tus.My goal when i started modding the griff was to get to where my tuscan performance was.To get a genuine 350 bhp out of a std 5.0l rv8 takes much more than that. The taraka/v8d stage 3 upgrade will 'feel' much more powerfull than a std 5.0l,but a fair bit of that feeling is the increased throttle response, hence the earlier comment from david beer about the guy who bought his larger throttle thinking it gave +20 bhp!
The v8d stage 3 kit i'm running is much stronger through the rev range than std,and will make more power further through the range(peak bhp is now at 6k rpm),even though this kit is slightly better than a taraka for performance, having owned a tuscan before im under no illusion that i need to do a lot more to get to speed six performance levels.Infact the easiest and probably cheapest way will be to increase capacity with the rv8, or do an ajp v8 conversion!!-i'm considering both at present

Humm... I have what I would consider a nicely tuned Griff 500 (TVR Power Cam, ACT twin Plenum, Tornado Chip, Bosch Injectors, larger air-flow meter, no pre-cats etc.) and it's fair to say that there was little to choose between my Griff and a Tuscan S when we gunned them over in France this year for Le Mans - and we played that game a few times during the week we were over there! Firstly, youve got a slightly different set-up there to a std taraka Rich.Heres what you get for your £3k at tvr power www.tvrpower.co.uk/5.taraka.php ,and i cant see much more than a cam, plenum and inlet manifold, that'll make extra horses. As said previously, the rest is mostly r-build,checking etc.
Second,a tuscan 's' makes 390-400bhp and 315-320ft/lb(widely regarded as real figures).I reckon there was something wrong with the tus if you were that close, but it depends on your interpretation of 'little to choose'.You have to go as far as guillotine has with a race spec tuscan challenge engine to get tuscan 's' figures.
Any griff 500,even in std form, will leave a s6 car at the lights, due to the amount of torque low down, but very soon after the tuscans caught you up and is passing.Even a std 4.0 tus is a second quicker getting to 100mph,an 's' is well over 2 seconds faster.
As i said, its your interpretation of just how close you were.If i wasnt on his bumper at 100mph,then i wouldnt say i was close,100yds behind and i call it way off,but some might think that close.

Regarding the Griff v Sp6 performance etc. I drove a Sagaris recently and was a little unimpressed with the mid range performance. Certainly no quicker than my Griff, however when you really rev the nuts off it it comes alive. First time I'd driven a Speed 6 powered Tiv and must say I loved the power delivery. Gotta say though that I think there wouldn't be much difference, if any, between a modded Griff and a std Tuscan/T350/Tam, unless the latter was driven very hard or at illegal motorway speeds. Much easier to extract the straight line performance out of the Griff due to the torque, as already mentioned.
