Another Dealer Closing

I rang them as they owe me a radiator, and my car will be away still, when they sadly close!

Confirmed. Poor girl on reception said "It was a good business, but the chap thats took over now, is running TVR into the ground. They have stopped making parts"
Paul Glynn (Service Manager) will be doing repairs with one other chap. Fortunately for us, he is taking over part of the building lease, and will be setting up a NEW company, with his own money. It will be awkward for them as people will still associate TMS with the location. I wish him every luck with it, he has been very helpful to me over the last few months, and it would be a shame to loose such people with exceptional TVR knowledge!

Now that really does worry me. The 'Speed 6 Clutch' thread caused me concern, but one part ne can prhaps put down to supply difficulties etc, but a broader statement like that really worries me.
If it rings true, it's bad news not only for the future of the marque (which I still believe is largely dependent on current/past TVR owners 'buying-in' to 'new TVR'), but also for those of us that already own TVRs. Certainly I have been told that oil pressure sensors for the RV8s are (i) in short supply and (ii) one of the most commonly failing items.
This is likely to cause a vicious circle in that current owners (i) become disolusioned as they can no longer buy parts to keep their P&J in top order and (ii) alter future purchasing decisions accordingly.
Now I realise that the comments quoted above appear to have been made by a receptionist and therefore it is more difficult to take these as gospel, however, the signs and symptoms of this statement having a ring of truth to it are there...
All IMHO, of course.
Just to put some perspective on this I spoke to TMS's Managing Director Peter O'Connor this morning. It is true that they are closing at the end of the year. Peter told me that the owners wish to retire. They have sold significant parts of their business over the last 18 months (it's a lot bigger than just the TVR dealership) and this is part of that process. They are not going bust, they are financially very sound.
A full statement is going to be issued in the next couple of weeks explaining exactly what's occuring.

I've also spoken to TVR this morning. They are looking to maintain continuity in the region by appointing a new dealer, so in the medium term owners will still have a main dealer in the area.
The recurring issue of clutch supply isn't unique to TVR I'm told with some other manufacturers also having supply problems. We hope get an update on this in the next few days.

Ummm...Trackcar I think you missed the point that the owner of the dealership has decided to close his businesses and retire. Not close because of lack of support from TVR.

Ummm...Trackcar I think you missed the point that the owner of the dealership has decided to close his businesses and retire. Not close because of lack of support from TVR.
If the TVR part of the business was viable surely you would sell it rather than just close it down?

I think a good indepentant would be insane to set up as a franchised dealer, particularly one as successful as James.
Being paid £26 an hour for warranty work for a start (and that is for the rectification only, not the diagnosis. So it may take you 2 hours to find the problem and half an hour to fix it. At the end of two and a half hours the fabulous TVR give the dealer £13 for your efforts.)
