Thought I'd fire up the boards with this one, especially for all you married guys out there.

After five years of legal rangle trying to get my ex girlfriend (not even married) off our joint mortgage, and some £16K+ in handouts both to her, the financing costs and to the solicitors for the transfer of equity, I have at last had her removed from the deeds this week. She never paid in anything, mortgage, deposit, bills etc, and she only lived here for two weeks, but I was lucky that I didn't have to stump up the extra £12k in additional costs that two firms of solicitors said it could cost to decide who gets what. If this had happened they would take the £12k bill, half it and add £6k to my already colosal re-mortgage. The only reason that she didn't instigate this was that it is not covered by legal aid. Thank God for that ruling.

If you are the male bread-winner and you are married, then the above link has serious implications for you. Keep 'em sweet or pre-nuptial.
