When I was driving the cerb today I noticed the central lock button in front of the ash tray was flashing!! When it was flashing the electric windows wouldnt work. I didnt try to see if the doors opened when I stopped, but by the time I got home the light had stopped flashing and the windows worked again.

Anybody any ideas what caused this?

I have the same problem occassionally and have put it down to the fact that I disabled the alarm when in the car, after missing the 30 sec immobiliser cut-in. My windows didn't work but when I stopped and opened the door and shut it again they then worked fine.

Not sure if this is the problem you have.

cheers

Thanks for the reply nick, i did mess up the alarm when getting into the car, so it sounds like your theory is right.

Thanks Again

The problem i have got has now changed so the car wont let me in!!!

When I went out to the garage this morning, i hadnt put the alarm on over night, and when I checked the light in the middle of the central locking it wasnt flashing. When I pressed the button to open the doors the light in the central locking button started flashing and the doors didnt open.

I had this problem yesterday, I could get round it by setting the alarm, going for a cup of coffee, then by the time I got back I disabled the alarm and the door opened.

Has anybody any ideas before I phone the dealer tomorrow!!

Thanks.

I wouldnt rush to a dealer. If the battery isnt flat (which is a distinct possinilty) I would gain entry, start the car using immobilisor, then try to reset the alarm.

Most alarm problems seem to dissapear when the thing is reset from what i have read on here.

Thanks for the replies, the next question is how do you reset the alarm! Is it just a case of disconnecting the battery. I looked in the owners handbook, but couldnt find anything.

The car is a late '98 4.5 if that makes any difference.

Had all sorts of silly things wrong with my alarm and ended up disconnection the battery to reset it. If I remember disconnect battery (you'll have to remove the inner bonnet), the alarm will scream it's head off which you wont be able to stop - tip don't do this first thing on a Sunday morning! Wait till the alarm stops then reconnect the battery and hold down the button on your alarm key - do this within a few seconds. If this has made sense and I've remembered correctly the key fob is now synced back up with the rest alarm and all should be well

Hope this helps
