New Paint and Zymol.

Just a quickie, just had the nose done on my 964 and wondered how long I should wait before applying the Zymol.

I read something recently that said applying zymol to new paint stopped the thinners or something evaporating and the paint cureng properly.

IIRC it said something like 3 weeks.

there are polishes that you can apply after painting made by farrecla.

note I know nothing just remember reading this recently don't know if there is any truth in it.

It should'nt need any Zymol for a while after the expense your going to. Your paint man will probably shoot you if you put anything but polish on his new paint job.

... Zymol is a "wax", basically, so should simply coat and protect the new paint (I can't see a problem with that...)

... "Polish" is an abrasive, intended for flattening the paint/clearcoat surface to remove surface damage (Shirley ;~) the last thing you would want with a new paint job...)

hi guys, with regards to applying zymol to a freshly painted surface. this is absolutly fine as there are no abrasives used in zymol so it can only protect the surface meaning it is better to do it straight away and especially if it is the front of the car as whilst it will not stop stone chips it does help to cut them down due to the high amount of carnauba in the product which in its natural form is harder than concrete. as for the new car once again the feeding oils in zymol will help the new paint and once again seal it from all those harsh chemicals in the atmosphere today. please drop me aline if you need any further help

Q: I have a new paint, when can I wax it?
A: Your challenge is to find out what 'kind' of paint was applied to your car. Acrylic Enamels are generally baked to a fairly hard finish and can be waxed in 3-5 days after application. If your paint is Lacquer or an acrylic that was not baked, you need to use a non-silicone spray wax to protect the surface while letting the VOCs (solvents ) gas out. The standard wait time before using a paste wax on non-baked paints is 90 days. Be sure to rinse your paint with cold water every day during this wait time to help 'set' the paint.

Body shops don't use any wax based products as it 's not the correct environment for them to be used. They'd contaminate the workshop and muck up the prepping and detailing process if there's any cross over of residue.

As an alternative glazes are used (eg 3M's hand glaze) although it's an absolute bugger to use.

After I got my car painted was told not to put anything on it for as long as possible to help curing and told just to wash it regularly with a mild shampoo.

3M Hand glaze just fills in light swirls and scratches. Dealerships love it.... so do a lot of bodyshops...

Simon/Zymolman - I am going blend your advise. i.e. pick the car up tomorrow and then place in the garage for a couple of weeks and wait until the weather improves - however before I wax should I HD-Cleanse??

Pesty - pcitures will be forecoming. Nice car by the way.

with regards to the use of hd cleanse, yes you will definatly have to use this as it will prepare a key for the wax and also remove all the unwanted waxes placed on the paint by the dealer.
have you already purchased the wax? if not please feel free to ask my advice on the best wax for the purpose. the new glasur wax was formulated for porsche in the u.s and after using the product i can confirm it is excellent.

Thanks Zymolman, I already have the Titanium Wax, however I will bear you in mind next time I need to stock up.
