New Noble owner needs help
Discussion
Hi All,
2.5GTO 2001
what temp should the cooling fans kick in? and what should the running temp be?. I do have the original ECU, which does show a high temp (so I've read).
I was thinking that the most sensible thing to do first is get a BOV (who's should I get).
I have also read about the IC, Would I realy need the upgrade as I might drive hard a few times round local roads but not for long periods, other than that I will be doing a few long motor way runs?
Is the oil breather kit nessaseray?
Finaly what checks do I need to do before driving the car and is there anything to look/listen out for?
Sorry for all the questions but you are the guys to ask.

I don't know yet I pick it up tomorrow, but on the test drive last week it looked like it sat around 100 while siiting parked after test drive while talking about the car. didn't stay in it long enough for the fans to kick in. My elise used to run at 90 and fans came in at 107, I know this car is completly different, which Is why I'm trying to get an idea.
If an elise started to go over the 115 mark then the head gasket could be at risk.
Thanks

Has your car had the fan upgrade on the rad( larger fans and shroud)They did tend to overheat more with the old fans.
BOV, choice is yours, i got mine from forge in gloucester( they o a kit for the noble) or i know the fp one is very simular (made by forge i believe).
I have a catch tank on mine, on normal road driving, it collects next to no oil so only really worth while if you are going to track the car.

Test it before handing over cash then. Run it stationary and rev it until the fans come on, or it gets too hot and worrying.
IIRC the fans are supposed to come on at 99 on the orig 2.5.
I had the temp sensor go on mine, easy to fix though.
If you put the aircon on, the front fans should trip in & out continuously.
If they dont, the fuse is probably gone. If they do, looks like it's the sensor.

Had some heat problems at Rockingham and so changed the switch and the fans now come on at 101. The guage is linked to a sensor in the engine bay not the ecu so what tends to happen is that you get 3 different readings. One at the fan switch , one at the sensor for the gauge and one on the ecu. Get them to link a laptop up to the ecu and see what temp its really running at as the guage may be wrong. I have the MBE ecu so will be getting the guage linked up to that at the next service but I don't think they can do that with the original ecu.

For fast road use, I'd say that upgrading the intercooler would be a waste of money. You only really feel the benefit of a bigger, fan-assisted IC on a circuit.

And definately not if you put your car into the gravel before 10am and then spend the next 4 hours picking stones out !
