Ice detector light

I took my Chim out for a nice drive this evening as it was nice and sunny all day (well, almost) and admittedly did turn a tad chilly but i was driving along a nice stretch of road so i thought i'd get a bit heavy footed on the loud pedal all of a sudden i saw a warning light come on ........... the Ice detector ......... during my drive it was constantly going on/off and got rather annoying especially as it was not that cold ........ ICE
My wife suggested putting a bit of black tape over it
Am i to expect this everytime i go for a drive during the winter months???????

Mine used to be spot on, didn't really flicker that much.

You may want to replace the thermister, IIRC it's in the front passenger wing.

Mine's pretty accurate, but on some days it did used to come on at speed, whereas it was off at standstill. Not sure where the sensor is, but I suspect it is susceptible to wind chill...

What would you call spot on though????? i wouldn't have thought it got much below 10 degrees so expect it to be on constant later on

I'm presuming this could be the same as mine, i didn't really take much notice when was on and when was off.

So do you just carry on driving it knowing that an annoying little light is going to keep glowing at you or do you have a solution to it .............. black tape like my wife suggested????........... disconnection????????

*sorry if it sounds a bit petty but i feel i need to moan about something as i've had my chim 3 months now with no complaints and my teeth have started to become sensitive to cold with all of this exposure *

I guess it depends what colour it was coming on. I don't know whether electrical things get affected by windchill, but I guess there's no reason why not, so green would be a possibility.

When stationary you have all the hot air hanging around the engine bay so it wouldn't surprise me if it then goes off.

I've had much the same experience, but tend to take some notice of the light - for information only.

For the first time since I bought the car mine flickered green this morning for about half an hour - I think the outside temperature was about 4°C. I'd consider disconnecting it or removing the lamp: it's a fairly pointless device.

The only time mine goes green is on start up check!

Watched it last winter - nothing/red every time - never mind eh - it does seem to be accurate for the red light.

It's inbetween the speedo and rev counter above the brake system warning light.

Green at 4C is about right - with an air temperature of 4C, you can get a touch of ground frost, especially in a morning - enough to make the surface interesting. Red should come on at about 1C, I think, when there is a definite danger of ground frost.

Ah! you may not have the useless ice detector, but you will have the useful cold air blower!

(aka boot opening ignition on warning device!! )

Talking of cold air, just been out in mine, as a passenger, air from face vent very hot, from drivers side one cold any ideas?

Anything to do with said cold air blower on driver's side? (i.e. extra cold air is compensating on drivers side, but there is no such device on passenger side?)

If temp is set to cold, are footwell louvres letting in hot air as well as other vents?
