Don't worry - You get value for money nowadays.

You'll find your ticket includes several bus journey's too.

Probably.

I work off the station rank and popped in the station last night for a price..when i heard the price i said to the bloke i only want to hire it not buy it,,he recognised me and said "Thats what i thought when i got in your cab the other night"

He looked to see if there were any offers but thats the best price available.

East coast main line on a Sunday ain't going to be fun at all. Fly to Durham-Tees Valley or even Leeds and get Train from there (especially Leeds there's a train that leaves to York every 30mins iirc and takes roughly 45mins)

Try the diarrhea method of travel.

Simply sit on the loo for the duration of the journey making groaning sounds. Ensure you take a bag of dog poo which you can leave near the base of the door to create an authentic whiff.

The guards invariably decide not to pester you. Ergo, free trip.

not that unusual from what I've seen, it's no wonder people fly, ironically the flight is usually cheaper than the trainfare to the airport

yep - if anyone is interested the ecml is bu66ered between stevenage and either potters bar or finsbury park (the latter i think) for every weekend until the dec 17th wknd. and they wonder why the number of people shopping in ldn is going down..

please note that this is an issue for WAGN trains and not gner - i **think** they are sending gner round the hertford loop - but i might be wrong - so check out the gner website. also i don't thing it's as bad for peteboghorror wagn trains as it is for those of use nearer ldn.

i use train every weekday so it's 'free' for me at wknds - but i just can't be bothered. rather just get my xmas prezzies on line i think...

Well, i recently visited some friends in Plymouth, 317 miles from my house. It would have cost about £75 return on the train with a railcard. So i drove there and back and it only cost £60 in diesel. No wonder people dont use public transport, as it's both more expensive and less enjoyable/comfortable. Journey time is also quicker in the car at 4h 20min from door to door (i.e no walking from house to train station to house).

The rail companies really need to get their act together.

Mrs.NCOT recently had to get a train to Birmingham from London, to meet me whereupon I was driving both of us back.

It was actually cheaper for her to buy a return than a single!

One of the reasons I have not renewed my Wagn Gold card - what's the point of "free" (sorry already paid for) train travel at weekends when its a change onto a bus service if you don't want Kings Cross and the trains that do run have extended delays as they wait their turn to go round the Hertford loop.
