I am a bit out of touch with the computer market and have just bought a second hand PC without a monitor. Are there any hot favourites at the moment? I usually look at the latest copy of the computer mags but I thought I would ask on here first.

I would prefer an LCD due to space restrictions. The last one I bought was a 17” Sharp which I have been quite happy with. I quite like the idea of slightly larger and am keen for good quality within a reasonable budget.

TIA

What's your idea of a reasonable budget?

Two that I would recommend are:

19"

20"

Keep an eye on the Dell website, as these are often reduced by large amounts. I've also seen them advertised on other websites (Aria I think).

Thanks for those. I think I am after 20” but my budget is after a 19”!

I bought this month’s Computer Shopper at lunchtime and they have a group test of fifteen or so – unfortunately not including those Dells. I need to read through but the best buy in a 20” was AOC at £343 inc and in a 19” they voted Belinea at £236.

Anyone used the AOC or Belinea?

I'm currently "enjoying" the same monitor dilemma... Ed's Dell 20" looks good, trouble is I want two. Might just push the boat out next week and buy two, you can't take it with you as they say.

Two monitors is *very* useful when working with photos, PS etc. Twin Sony 17" TFTs here - excellent viewing area for the money!

I've come up with a plan to get two monitors on a budget...

Think I'll pick up one of the 20" dells, then supplement it with a 15" belinea which can rotate 90degrees, giving me the flexibility of two monitors, but without breaking the bank!

If it was "cost was no object", I'd get one of these:

click

...but I will probably end up with either:

NEC 90GX2 700:1 with OptiClear

or

NEC 20WMGX2 1600:1 with OptiClear, widescreen, plus TV functionality

I am leaning toward the latter because of the amount of DV I edit (not just carshows, but every major family excursion. It would make the job significantly easier).

How quickly did yours arrive Mark? I ordered wednesday and the order status still says "processing", even though it said delivery would be today or monday.

I bloody hope they work saturdays so I get it monday or I'll spit my dummy.

Never been so enraged in my life......

Ordered a monitor from Aria on wednesday, order was taken, credit card was charged. Emailed on friday to update delivery address, they said "that's fine, updated".

Called today to ask where my monitor is, "we're out of stock, we'll refund you".

So I basically just gave Aria 350 quid for a week then they gave it back, in the meantime I have to call THEM to find out it's out of stock!!

Total Fwits.

Bigger problem is I can't get that monitor at that price anywhere else. Back to the drawing board.

Sorry to hear that things didn't go to plan. Keep your eyes on the Dell website, as they often have special offers on these screens, and if you can wait a bit you should be able to get ~20% off.

Bit more of a search found them at the same price elsewhere, so crisis averted.
