Who' to blame?
Discussion
Where is the blame? Fiesta breaks down. Home call on the breakdown cover called and diagnose starter motor. OK its towed to a local garage and replaced. All seems OK. Next day wife is pulling into Tesco's and the car dies. The garage that repaired it is near by and she asks them to look into it as they are the last to touch it. Late in the day and all mechanics gone home, manager looks at it and says the battery is flat, not our problem. Whacks a bit of charge on to get her home. The car dies 200 yds from home so she has to call her father to tow to the house, bit too worried to call the break down again. Whilst trying to park the car, by hand, local resident..sorry git says its in the way so more grief.
I arrive home from working away and look into it at around 22:00 to find the wire that should be attached to the changed starter motor not attached. The wire had broken off the connector thus not charging the battery. It was obviously a dodgy joint in the first place, looking at the state of the bare cable. Heat damage and corrosion etc. Should the mechanic have spotted it? Or do the train them just to undo and redo nuts etc nowadays?

The charging lead for the battery from the alternator goes via the positive on the starter. Looking at it this morning in daylight and not torch light it was never reconnected. Result is the battery recieves no charge but the alternator thinks all is well so ignition lamp does not come on.
