The great escape!!! JO_TV.

Anyone see the programme last night about Jamie Oliver.
He went to get the meat on the farmland by grabbing a lamb. He walked to the pen to choose one, tied it up, little comment came out, "it's not like Sainsbury's is it" then proceeded to lay it down.
Actually killed the lamb, and they showed it on tv!!
Stuck the knife in, said the prayers then carved it!! Mad or what.
Not much on tv, not a jamie oliver fan at all.
But very interested in his porsche vw camper van

I thought it was quite a useful thing to broadcast. There's an awful lot of people out there who think that lamb is born in a shrink-wrapped polystyrene container on the supermarket shelf.
My friend's 5 year old son thinks that there are a lot of one-legged chickens around because of us eating chicken legs.
I thought it was brilliant - you could see that he really didnt want to do it but went through with it and felt good for it. His comment that it would be hypocritical not to do it but cook it all the time was spot on, as was his comment that we are at the top of the food chain and this is natural.
I didn't see this. But - I do think its absolutely excellent. I shall watch the programme if its repeated. Not because I want to see an animal die - but out of support for the educational value showing a food animal being "prepared" for consumption.
If you wouldn't/couldn't kill it yourself and cook it you shouldn't be eating it. Sure its nice that someone else makes stuff Oven Ready. But there's a whole section of British Society who are able to kid themselves on all sorts of fronts because they don't have to prepare their own food.
Chicken comes from Sainsbury's in plastic, eh? Couldn't possible involve a bird dying now could it?

Glad you mentioned kids actually - notice how all the family were involved? The little girl (probably less than 5) wasn't at all upset by it - even gave the carcass a good poke with a steel while it dripped blood into the paddling pool (probably not, as JO suggested, hers!) and the cat had a nibble at the intestine.
