Yes, that's right - a Mini. From a breath taking, heart stopping super car, to a mini. Am I mad?

Has anyone else gone from one extreme to the other?

I have a Mini, go from 360BHP to 80BHP every day. 4200cc to 1293!

Great fun, cost next to nothing to run, user friendly.

Can you not run both?

I've often thought about getting another, but if I do it'll be one of these for sure...

I used to have a Clubman 1100. Fantastic, picked it up for £100 and wrote it off about 8 months later, sold it for parts for £60. Fancy another one again but I think I'm going to build a Seven first then get a mini for kicks.

Go for it. Swindorski has a mini and cerb (cerb is for sale at the moment).

Had two minis in the past, 850 Morris mini with sliding screens and a Cubman estate, swore i would never have another one as long as i lived, until i saw that link, fan bloody tastic! What a crack one of those would be, the perfect alternative car to the cerbera!

Can't keep them both I'm afraid, the wife hates the Cerb and won't drive it. The family are complaining it's too squished, so they wont go out in it all together. This didn't put me off, it's my car and they can complain all they like, hence me promising to sell it (but not really doing it seriously). Only now that I've thought about a mini am I prepared to let it go, but the mini will still have to be a bit rapid.

Making a mini quick is no problem, just stay away from turbo's as they tend to blow their gearboxes. Also look at the space. I dont see how there is any more room in the back of a Mini than a Cerb.

You will be doind 4,000rpm on the M'way at 75mph. Its loud and bouncy.

You are stuck in catch 22 here. The best ones for everyday use are the MPi ones made 'till 2000, but you cant reallt tune these.

Have you thought about a classic? say 1969 Cooper S?

My Cerb measured 131.4dB, I'm now deaf. Bouncy, I'm sure some decent suspension will sort that out.

Oh yes, a 1968/69 Cooper S would suit me down to the ground. But I'd not want to molest it, so it's either that or a normal mini, modified with either a vtec or bike engine swap

There are some downsides with the BEM conversions.

The Gearboxes of bike engines were never designed to push that much weight and they have an horrific lack of torque.

The VTEC is better driveability wise but you are limited to a Clubman unless you want to stitch a 90mm segment into the front wings that makes them look ridiculous and the clutch arrangement is rather odd.

Its not about silly power, a good solid 1380 A Series, well setup and stripped out will provide all the fun you need.

I've had a Mini all the time I've had various sports cars and there is no car, anywhere that would convince me to sell it.
