Just picked up my new 997 C4s ..ok so it doesn't sound like the GT but @ least i can still goon around with my Lambo 2....

Unlike my 996 c4s, the sports exhaust seems to turn its self off @ around 3500 rpm. Now on my previous 4S one of the tech chaps @ the Porsche garage removed a fuse to make the exhaust stay on all the time....

As you know, you now have to switch the exhaust on..... but does anyone know of a way or even can it be done to make sure the exhaust stays on through the rev band ??

HELP !!

Ps Robin @ Porsche Silverstone says he'll discount any Porsche by up to 20 %...

Just Kidding.

Ben

Hey Nasty

Nice work on the 997 - congratulations! Does this mean the GT is off the agenda? I was enjoying the buying dilemma threads...

My question is somewhat off topic - do you know what fuse it was that the Porsche guys removed on your old C4S to have the sports exhaust work below 3500 rpms? I need to have that sucker removed from my 996!

Enjoy you fabulous new car.
Cheers
Loony

There is a section on Rennlist that shows you in pictures which fuse to remove

Do a search on this forum and all the info, plus the link to Rennlist, for carrying out the mod on a 996 is here.

The 997 sports exhaust is wired in differently to the 996, the 997 is wired in to the DEM so there is no fuse to pull out, you have to Just disconnect the on/off control switch or the vacuum hose both in the engine bay, takes about 30 seconds to do and the exhaust will be on all the time with no quiet zone whether your in sport mode or not.

He means when it's six months old!

Were you not buying a C-gt? Have I missed something? Note to self, must pay attention.

Jp,

Please explain, i like the sound of the on off switch bit !!

I can't knock a nail in so forgive me !!

Thought it was linked to the speedo in some way ???

Can you help with a picture/s etc?

Lack of warranty + the car was deff over priced...well let me put it another way..on reflection i think worth circa 225...he wanted 250-265...however its still for sale!

I've kept my Gallardo + took delivery of the 4s...had it on order for ages + have a cayman s here end of this month....so 3 for the price of 1 so 2 speak!!!

The hack that everyone does on the 997 is to disconnect the electrical connector on the vacuum switch that controls the actuators. This is the brown electrical connector in the picture. This would be the same if power was removed from the vacuum switch by pulling a fuse. (however in the 997, electrical power to the vacuum switch is provided by the DME, and the power line to the switch does not have an inline fuse).

Yes it’s ok, look on the renn Boards its how everyone has done it, also my mate is a service manager at one of the opc and he had one of his techs do it when i had the exhaust fitted.

Yes, just push in the metal clasp and pull it off completely then use a cable tie to secure the lead to one of the rubber hose next to it, then you can just replace the switch if you want to go back to switching it on or off.
