Hi All
She let me down for the first time on Wednesday. I had been driving round all day and around lunch time the rev counter stopped working! I thought I had read on here "They all do that Sir" every now and again. So not too worried. At 2.30 sat in traffic at a rail crossing and she started to run lumpy, then just cut out. I tried to start her again and it sounded like the battery was flat?? Calle dthe AA and the guy tested the altenator and it was pusing out 14 volts but they where not reaching the battery. So he put a bridge cable from the back of the alt to the battery and problem fixed.
Now here is where it getts really bad. When the AA man connected the battery the alarm came on closed the window and locked the doors, Keys still in side!!!!!!!!
Tried the other way to get in and the handle would not move we tried everything from rope to tea towels it would not move.
We then tried to break the side window with a hammer and centre punch; it would not break!!!! at all.
Two hours later the low loader turns up, BUT the car is parked half on the road half on the foot path. So he could not load it.
Another hour later a taxi turns up with spare key fob and I'm on my way.
Question 1 Where are the 14 volts going from the alt not to make it to the battery?
Question 2 Have you checked the other way of getting in so you do not have the same problems I had.
Question 3 Not a question but watch out for the rev counter going it could mean the battery is not charging.

He's right you know,
Rev counter stops working / starts bouncing = 100A fuse on way out
Alternator's charge not reaching the battery = 100A fuse is
ed.
Never had a problem getting in via the alternative route, patience & listen out for that "dragging a screwdriver down a spring" type sound always helps.

If any one is interested, I know a much quicker way to do the special entry method (about 1 minute with no messing around) Reply to this, and if someone else can vouch for you, or I know your profile I will email you how

Surely the traditional method only takes a minute and no messing around
Drop me a mail through my profile, this has got me curious. BTW, when my alarm was going off and we were away on holiday, my father in law thought he had a no messing way of getting in - involving taking half the car apart

john - Have had all the same stuff happened to me which floored the AA guy but def big fuse and call me if you want on 07970 292 660 and can talk you thru what to do to get in without the keys. Big fuse is simple to fix and cheap but fiddly if you try to do it yourself. AJ
DOH! - read it all too quickly and seems like you are sorted but if you do need to speak with someone weho has been thru exactly the same problem give me a shout
