On heavy decelleration (lifting off the throttle suddenly, causing the car to judder) there is a knocking coming from the rear clam - like a metal pipe tapping the frame.
Wondered if it might be the exhaust banging on something.
The exhaust recently developed a noise at around 2000rpm...like a marble whizzing around inside a tin. It's mild, and doesn't seem to affect performance, but I wondered if this might be the same offending problem, vibrating at a different frequency.
Anyone, please?

I had one of these and in my case it was a pipe running past and hitting the rear diagonal cross member.

Difficuly to point out, but if you stand on the passenger side looking in about a foot behind the rear screen and about a foot in from the wheel edge is a silver pipe running up down and a chassis member running diagonally into the middle of the car. On mine it was these knocking but it could really be any 2 pipes knocking.

Difficult to find without jangling everything around.

At a rough guess the bracing bracket from the chassis to the main box has broken and is now knocking against the exhaust when the engine moves.

Get it fixed ASAP as otherwise you will strain the turbo gaskets/manifold which will turn out expensive.

As a temporary measure you can use thick garden wire (without the green stuff) to wrap around and keep the exhaust in place.

I had something like that on mine.

Then I remembered I had loosened the harness off a bit - it was buckled behind the driver's seat - and the buckle was banging on the back of the seat.

Hope it's something as simple as that...

I broke it again for the third time at Snetterton today.

Does anyone know of a *proper* fix for this as it's getting rather tiresome [sorry for the thread hijack but's it's a pretty good chance that the knocking will the proverbial PITA exhaust bracket]

ps. someone at Snetterton said my wheels look nice

Redesign the engine mounts and exhaust supports from the manifold back?

Moley have found it. They have welded all around the bracket, not just at the top and back ends.

When I get the car out next I'll take a piccie for you. Despite mucho abuse from me it's not broken since they fixed it.

The alternative is to find one of those "band" clips to go right the way around the exhaust. I've not managed to find one, but since Moley fixed it I haven't really tried.

A picture would be much appreciated so that my local dealer can see what to try next.

Cheers

Cheers all. Just got to your replies now. I'll pop it back into Vegantune. Brake light's gone anyway. Ho-hum
