Just got the moped back from the local Honda dealer after it's 1st 4000 mile service. It seems that it is now the norm to swap out parts at will and then inform the customer when the bill is being paid.

"Oh and by the way, we had to change the brake pads as we didn't think that they would make the next service", WTF! No phone call to say, your pads are near the end of their useful life, would you like us to swap them out!! The excuse was, if you can afford a £9k bike then you shouldn't be worrying about the cost of pads.

THAT ISN'T THE POINT!! Sod the cost, let me know in future!!

Rant Over.

Apparently we may have been over doing it this summer as they don't get many bikes needing pads on a first service. Probably because the majority of bikes you sell are off-roaders that don't spend most of their time on track days. Numpty.

Tell them to put the old ones back, as they had no right to change them without asking first.
Faced with the prospect of having to do the job again and then being stuck with a set of second hand pads that no-one would buy, I'm sure they'll be accomodating

If you feel it's necessary, tell them to put the old pads back on. After all if the pads have another 2k in them, then you can change them later and defer the cost.

In isolation its probably not that big a deal, but you are defiantly correct. You put the bike in for a service, only the items stated in your service book should be changed and charged for. unless you have specifically given the go ahead they cannot change parts at will. There is no question you could have asked for your old pads to be fitted back and the invoice adjusted accordingly.

Giving them the benefit of the doubt they were probably trying to be as professional as possible maybe what is expected of owners of their top model.

I understand that they may have tried to look 'pro-active' in dealing with a flag-ship model. I don't think they see many Blades anyway as they are a small establishment trading predominantly in off-road bikes. I haven't got an issue with the cost at all. My problem lies with the lack of correspondence. A quick courtesy call would have sufficed.

I have the original pads at home now. On review, they did require replacement. Overall, I am happy with the service; I will be calling them today just to thank them and to highlight, in future, should anything above and beyond the advised service be required, I am to be advised prior to performing the work.

Nice to have the bike prepped and ready for next year's antics!

In my experience the pads on blades do wear down very quickly and I can see why they changed them for you. I'd just ask them not to do it in future if you can keep and eye on them yourself and change them as and when... very easy to do on mine.
