Suspension knock

Trying to find the source of my 'clacking' noise.
Jacked the front up. If i lift the wheel up with the jack handle and then let it drop, I get a fairly loud clunk when the wheel comes to the end of it's drop. Is this normal? I'm going to try the other side to see if it happens there.
Seems to me that it's inside the damper, and when it uses up all the piston it hits indide.
How easy is it to change the shock - can I just undo the top and bottom bolts and remove, or do I need to arse about with the brake calipers etc....?

Well thats what my clacking noise was, dealer replaced damper so Sorry cant comment on how to do it.. But once replaced my noise gone. Good luck..
