when did the Elise get flabby?
Discussion
Reading The Knowledge in Evo, it shows the weight of a 111r as 860kg, whereas the S2 Sport 190 was only 710kg.
Any idea where the extra weight came from, and can i remove it!
edited to say mine in std, without ew. ac. or soundproofing.

Hi
The toyota engine is considerably heavier to start with - there is around 40kg. Gearbox heavier too. Then there are extras - electric windows, sound proofing, aircon - can't remeber how heavy this was, but over 12kg. ABS, Heavier seats etc. Loads of things which all add up. You are really unlikely to get an R down to the same weight as the sport 190 which was fairly stripped out to start with though a fair bit can be done - lightweight exhaust (3kg quickspeed) saves nearly 20kg over standard.
If you are really obsessed with the weight, you are going to need deep pockets - carbon bodywork etc etc.

Regulation for cars has changes considerably in the last decade. There is so much that has to be put in for it to be sold in markets across the world. It is not the fault of the 'liz, it is the way the car is now a days.
It is still a light weight car, for example if you were to spend approx £30k on carbom fibre body panels you would save 30 to 40 kgs. Not much.
The best way to lighten a liz is for the driver to go on a diet.

Are you suggesting a group diet by any chance

The Elise started getting fat the moment they deleted MMCs from the spec sheet and hasn't stopped eating since..... My car tipped the scales at 692kg with about 15L of fuel on board, mind you you'd be hard pressed to find an Elise that left the factory with lghter spec... the only thing mine's got that would make it any heavier than minimum would be the radio. Since then it's dropped another 10-12kg with the fitment of a full new exhaust and ditching most of the intake piping (although the ali throttle body is heavier than standard) so mine's probably about 665-670kg dry now.
Wheels are a good place to start shedding weight... a good set of magnesium rims will save all up about 10-20kg over standard.
