Just had a couple of new tyres fitted on the rear.

Couple of questions if anyone can help

Do i need the rear wheels realigned or not (tyre fitter recomended I got these done????)

Also car seams to have a smell of burning rubber even on calm quiet drives (no wheel spinning) - Is this normal.

This is my first rear wheel drive car so am to sure if the above needs doing or if the smell is just because the tyres are new - could even be something else causing the smell

Any advise would be good

Were the originals 245s? If 245s are considerably larger than the originals an alignment might be worth doing or if the old tyres had unusual wear rate/pattern at correct pressures and use. If you have modified the suspension it might be worthwhile too. Beware the tyrefitter moneygrab though.
If the new rubber is larger, consider removing the wheels and checking the tyre and inside the guards for signs of wear or rubbing, but I would have thought there's plenty of room in there for that size (unless the suspension is lowered). Have you had any new hoses/exhaust/brake pads fitted? These will smell the first few times they get hot too.
Also, check your hoses and pulleys. If there is something rubbing against them or a pulley too loose or too tight, that will stink - until the belt breaks.

Other than that, bad smells and poor alignment of the rear end are just normal side effect of a RWD muscle car. At least they are on mine

At the minute everything is bog standard - no lowering, no new pads or pipes/cables.

It is due for a service in about 2 weeks so I might get it checked then

Thanks for the advise

There should be no reason for checking alignment, just after fitting new tyres, unless an uneven wear pattern has been noticed on the old tyres.

There should be more than enough room for 245's, as a friend is running 255's on the rear of his Monaro without any problems.

I had to have the tracking done by Greens even though it was a new car.
Brian told me it is quite a common thing to need doing when the car is new.

No idea why mind you.
