Te passenger window failed to return to the shut position today when the plipper is pressed, so I have to get in the driver's side to wind it up.It seems to have lost its memory! How can it get it back without a trip to the dealer? Any suggestions gratefully received

There’s an electronic gizmo in both doors that control the windows sounds like yours have gone damp and gone tit's up! I’ve had two replaced so far in my passenger door.

I did hear that you could reset the datums (from closed and from inside the car) by opening, then closing them, one click at a time, one window at a time.

Not sure whether it'll work, but what the hell!

When mine went mad I unplugged the door module
under the centre console then plugged it back in
and it reset itself. Worth a try.

Take the centre console out by removing the screws
visible at the sides below window switches and there
is a large bolt at the far end nearest to the back window.
Lift the console and you will see two black boxes with
multi plugs connected to them and they should have a sticker
on the side saying DOOR ECU,unplug them and then reconnect.
Do this with the doors CLOSED.

I had similar problems a few times. That way didnt work but with fannying around it eventually worked. A combination of shutting the door, then getting in the opposite door and winding it up inside, then arming the alarm outside the car mostly reset it. It does seem to be a weak point though. I once went over a completely unsigned roadworks pothole which must have been pretty deep due to the jarring in my back it gave. As well as trying to compose byself from the shock, I was also distracted by the drivers window deciding to open all the way and stay like that until I could park and do the described 'fannying around' fix!

Er! I know I've been guilty of spreading that one.

In my defence it did come from a very reliable source, and I think it is a useful "no cost" try if the shaftwhimbleturnensnickenthrumblewhirrwhirrmotor is having a bad day!

again!

I had same prob. Replacing window sensor inside door wind mechanism is an easy DIY job and the part costs about £30. It has spade connectors and unbolts without hassle once the door trim is off. Try swapping one side for the other to check.
