Try an Optech pro strap

The long neck strap can be detached and the two short straps then join together to form a very short strap plus it is one of the most comfortable straps I have ever used.

Seconded, though I very very rarely find the need to remove my strap.

We had a thread on this about six months ago, IIRC.

Interestingly, I rarely bother to put one on. It always seems to get in the way.

This means that camera goes in and out of bag pretty regularly, with two main downsides:

1) the eyepiece is forever coming off
2) often go to hit the release and then notice that the command dial has twisted a position or two

They used to do them where they locked into place for ISO didn't they? Now seems a backward step that it'll turn freely.

So - I suppose the best bit of advice is "stickastraponit" ???

Yep, I started it!

Ended up with an optech pro. However as you say, it rarely goes on, camera is either in the bag or in the hand, never round the neck.

Still it's a useful addition to the bag on the odd occasions I've been in a precarious position.

I am firmly in the 'straps get in the damn way' camp. The only problem is I often let my son (six years old) use the camera and so am paranoid about him dropping it. I have now invested in a whole £3.99 worth of wrist strap just to add a bit of security and save me bouncing around him like a wicket keeper on speed.

Optech is definitely the way to go. Long strap for when you are carrying between location, then unclip to short strap when you have camera mounted on tripod etc. They may be a bit pricey to strat with but mine have lasted years so far and show no signs of wearing out and they are also really comfy for carrying kit around for a long time.

Indeed, most of the time my OpTech pro strap is not on the camera, and I have the two short ends clipped together, which if wrapped correctly make a good wrist strap.

On the rare occasion I need a shoulder strap, it's nice to be able to just clip it on, and when you are carrying around a big 100-400L all day it makes a difference...

Had it bookmarked as it's one of those things I really must get...
