a lot of people have said that the price of chims have falling lately, but i have just noticed the price of a couple of tamoras on the classifieds.
1)2002 12000miles one owner ftvrsh nightfire red £17995
2)2001 low milage tamora in yellow £18500
with prices like this 50% deprection in 3-4 years is it any wonder that chim prices are falling. could somebody tell me why tamoras are so cheap.

They're cheap because people dismiss them without driving them.
I think I saw one for £10,000. To be sold 'as seen' - seller says it needs an engine rebuild. Cheap as chips.
These are as such a massive step forward in refinement, safety, performance, handling over the Chimaera/Griffth - I couldn't spend £20k on a Griffith with one of these as an option. Each to their own I guess. Just try a T350/Tamora before parting with your hard-earned cash everyone!!

I was only thinking the same thing myself today also.Last year when i bought my tuscan in June,an 02 tamora was around 26-28k.Thats one hell of a drop.There have been quite a few good tamoras well below £20k recently.I know the last reason to buy your chosen tvr should be residuals,but it makes me feel very chuffed that i went back to another griff

Without opening the debate...
It is JUST THE PERCEPTION that the engine MAY let go, costing 5k to rebuild, just scaring people off...
Whether you are in the camp, the s6 is perfect, or the other it is chocolate, doesn't matter to the used car market. The fact the TVR has done very little (nothing ?)until very recently, to correct/counter this 'perception' is killing it used on cars - the new 3 year warrabnty will help residuals on cars that come with it, but until now, that has the adverse effect of making residuals worse on the older one.
MAYBE the new, used TVR warranty that dealers will be offering will firm up the prices.
If you compare 2000-2002 griff/chim prices vs 2000 - 2002 tam/tusc prices they are actually genearlly holding up somewhat better (take a browse through autotrader) than tams/tusc, depending on mileage, any scary colour combinations. PLus they were a bit cheaper new as well.

Thanks bjwoods,that makes it a bit clearer, it still suprises me how cheap these cars ars though, surely they must be a better car than the ones it replaced or am i totally wrong in my thinking.

Nope, I think you're right in your thinking, and it is just Speed 6 fear putting people off - plenty of former Griff and Chim owners on the Tamora forum, and they'll all tell you what a big advance the Tam is in many areas such as handling, ride, brakes etc.
Depressing for me seeing Tam prices sliding, but hopefully more people will realise what an absolute bargain they are at the moment, start buying them, and firm up prices!

They are a better drive in all respects,but as has already been said,its that engine that puts people off,not surprisingly.I think now that prices have got so low,more people will be willing to take the gamble and some will be buying knowing they can afford the rebuild costs when it fails.
I just wonder what the impending new tvr engine release will do to these prices,but i just cant see how they can go much lower?
I think if i were buying one,then i would buy one as well specced as possible,so as to protect its residual as much as i could.
It is hard to objectively compare some griff's/chims vs tams as some of the former are over 13 years old vs 3-4 years old...
A better comparison is say a 2001-2003 griff 500 or chim 500, and a 2002 - 2003 tam. If you compare one where both owners have respected it and looked after it, the difference is not that marked, They have DIFFERENT driving characteristics, one not necessary BETTER than the other just different.
Though the Griff/Chim would benefit from a set of nitrons/ohlins then the diffeence is even less.
Personally the tam's styling has grown on me, and it IS a bit quicker, if you hget used to revving it more than the v8.
Problem remains, people FEAR the engine, and this will continue to hurt residuals....
MAybe ab Autocraft 'fix' will stop the slide, but that will still cost 5k that you will not neccesary see back when you come to sell it, make it easier to sell yes.
At the £20k ish level a Risk of a maybe £5k rebuild is a substantial % of the cars value, making it less attrcative with those with a £20-25K budget, as there is a lot of choice out their you could get an immacualte griff 500/Chim 500, let alone a LOT of other manufacturers sports cars.. All obviously 2nd hand , with 2nd hand car risks, but WITHOUT the PERCIEVED risk of a pretty definite rebuild very 15k miles..
