Door won't open

Having a problem opening the passenger door. The window only drops about 4" and the door doesn't open. There is a noise as if a motor is running but not engaging something. How does the door trim come off so I can take a look. Is it easy or is this a dealer job.

The door trim is easy to get off. Approx 8 allen screws. 2 above the hinges on top, 3ish on the end near the lock, and 3/4 on the bottom. Straight forward. Watch for the connectors behind the trim. These can be a problem, but probably not in your case due to the motor running.

If you can hear a "Clicking" noise but the door is not opening believe it or not it will actually be good news . It means tha actuator is working , but the rod which connects it to the door release mechanism has detached or broken . Nothing which can't be rectified with a suitably bent piece of wire coathanger . Happened to me a couple of weeks ago .
Pull out the trim panel around the seat belt and all will be self evident.

Well, I've had a go and managed to get the door trim off but the only thing behind that is the window winder mechanism. How do I get to the bit that controls the door. I have also reset the door and lock control box in the boot but still no difference. The electric windows seem free enough, they go up and down nicely but when I try and open the door sometimes the window doesn't drop at all and sometimes it only drops about 4".
Im baffled now what to do, anyone got any ideas?

check the setting of the door switch on the underside of the door its not unknown to be loose or incorrectly set, sposed to 'just' touch the sill

No. It doesnt move, but adjusts with a nut. Its a proximity switch. In the sill is a magnet, which you may not see because of the paint. Its not suppose to touch the magnet, but its rests near it. Not sure of the gap. Have you checked the connector in the photo in my previous comment?

If the door box connections get damp the car can lock you out. Another tell-tale sign is if, when in it, the window goes up by itself or - if its already up - the little green LED in the door lock button in the centre console starts flashing.
If these symptoms are familiar, drying out will cure the problem itself (until the next time). Solution is to junk the door/wing connector and solder the door loom/main loom wires together and seal with insulation.

Just been out in the garage again, this is bugging me now. Mick - cleaned up the connectors you mentioned in your link, checked the proximity switch but all looked OK. In desperation pulled off the panel as mentioned by Neil and although I couldn't see much I found two spade connectors. Cleaned up those and had a fumble around with the cable etc and now it's working. Don't know why or how but I'll have a proper look tomorrow when I'll remove the panel properly. I have a feeling it's something mechanical but it's only a guess at this point.
I found something else out while doing this, never try to be a rear seat passenger in a cerb, ha, ha.
