I got dragged into this programme by my wife, and unfortunately it got its hooks into me. Oh dear.

Now I was under the impression that it was a talent contest (yeah, I know), but tonight was a travesty. A young lass with an superb voice, a lot of talent, and not at all unpleasing to the eye, has just gone out. In contrast, a group of 4 Irish girls who evidently have the whole of Ireland behind them, and then an Irish judge with the casting vote, have just gone though.

Just doesn't seem right to me.

Ok, flame on. I can take the ridicule for posting this.

Yep agree, Maria should have stayed in and the Conway sisters gone - dont think it was an Irish trick though. I think it was more like a manipulation of the game. Loie (sp?) wants to win and he can manipulate the results to keep the bad ones in and keep his in - and who gets the record contract for the winner? Makes you think - little to do with ability or x-factor and more down to the judges wanting to win and make money.....

I hate to admit this but.....

I have made a point from the very first "pop star" series of being out in the pub, on the way back from the football or asleep when one of them is on.

However, this one I have watched from the very start. All of the finalists except chico are exceptionally talented. Voting Maria off because she isn't Irish makes a mockery of the whole show.

Yes, it's very good TV but really they should knock off the one who gets the least votes off the public each week rather than leaving it to the judges to kick them off. One thing for sure is that Simon is the only judge who is completely honest, he even slagged his own act off last week!!

I hope Journey South win as they are talented, play instruments (a first for one of these shows) and are very original.

Nah, I've got that one sussed, I reckon....

Clever man that Louis, he knows Maria has the talent to go on to more success outside the X-Factor, and that the Conways would sink without trace if booted out.

So that's how he justifies the travesty to himself.

Blimey, flash, you're one of the last people I'd expect to contribute positively to a thread like this. I think CarZee is probably the person least likely, but you're probably a close second.

Yes, the Journey South lads do seem to be fairly talented, but we do seem to be getting to the stage where all the contestants are genuinely talented. Apart from the feckin' Conway Sisters who are buoyed up simply by their passports.

Chico is an entertainer, and for that I salute him. He hasn't got a good voice, and to be honest he lucked in tonight, but Maria has genuine talent. I can see her being signed as soon as contractually allowable.

Indeed - he has gone up vastly in my estimation for his honesty. He was also fairly entertaining on Top Gear and his lap times were fairly impressive too.

(Edited for spelling. AGAIN. I blame the wine.)

Well, there you go John. Life is full of suprises!

Tonker "The missus was flicking through the channels.."

Yeah ok mate, whatever....

I disagree, for once there are several extremely talented people on this show. One or two I think will become household names. Brenda is amazing as is the guy who used to be a binman. Journey South werent as good this week but last week I thought they were astonishing.

I too have got drawn into this, since Mrs Pilgrim hides the remote when its on!!!

However, saying that....

I'm embarrased by Louis' comments towards the conway sisters - makes me ashamed to be Irish.

Chico couldn't hold a tune if he held out both his hands - he's a good performer, but what do you expect from an ex-stripper.....if you can prance around in front of a room full of aggressive women with dick & the twins on show, simon cowell is easy....

the bit where the judges vote on the last 2 is so stupd!!!!!

Maria should have stayed, she has more talent, and a cracking set of jubblys!!!

Brenda is amazing, but I agree with Simon, she'll never appeal to the 16-25 demographic

Journey South might just sneak it...that would piss Louis off!!!

I was surprised too. OK so Maria's act could have been done by lots of girls with enough practice, but the Conways were frankly dire, especially in the choice of song which sounded more like an escape from Eurovision. The lead girl looked nice enough but the rest are frightful; no attempt to coordinate outfits or choreography; girl on the right too fat to wear tight jeans etc.

I think Louie's lost the plot in this series. Either that or it's been decided to make him the bad boy instead of Simon.

The conways should have gone- whats that pout all about?

Maria will surely get contract offers, the losers of the show sometimes turn out to be winners (Hearsay/Liberty X)

More so the total inability to take any criticism, even constructive. They seem to think that Simon should say nothing bad about them, even when they sing totally off-key and he has the (apparent) temerity to point it out to them.

Louis is a gushing fool, Sharon believes in the maxim "if you can't say anything nice, then find something nice to say" (witness her telling one of tonight's performers that she really liked the song, but crucially not commenting on whether or not they had sung it well), but only Simon seems to be able to tell it how it is and be honest and objective.

I worked at Fame Academy and have managed to avoid watching any/much of any of the others since but the missus has been following this and its caught my attention

The Conway Sisters are dier - i don't know how they have managed to stay in for so long. Judging by simon Cowells face when Maria was sent home, he knew that it was a travesty and he only voted for the Conways because they are his band. I honestly thought he might have broke the mould and actually sent his own group home. Poor show

I was hoping simon would send his own act home for a spot of controversy. That stupid face the lead singer pulls when they are judging them is really annoying ! Anyway it really should have been Chico who went this week - his performance was cringe-worthy and if they had turned the smoke and wind up (mainly to cover up his vocals and dancing)any higher i suspect the set may have been taken out....Did anyone see him take Kate Thorton out with his split!? lol

I think the public are keeping Chico in as a sick joke on the judges - if he wins through a public shafting they'll be gutted!! (I'll be most amused though)

He had one hit single, just after he had won. His album went to the top of the charts for a while on the back of the show, but he didn't capitalise on it. Simons record company dumped him soon after. He's probably gone back to being a wedding singer

After watching Parkinson last night (sad I know) I found Maria to be more pleasing to the ear than Madona!, and yes I think she was far better than the Conway sisters as well.

Simple - they have the whole of Ireland voting for them, and then had an Irish judge (Louis) use his casting vote nepotistically.

I think he was sorely tempted - he knows the Conways will sink without a trace and that Maria will go on to greater things. I reckon he'll offer her a recording contract the moment he is allowed to, unless Louis or someone else beats him to it first. Whatever happens, I think we haven't seen the last of her.

It may also have something to do with the fact that Louis knows the conways personally and they are one of his acts from way before x-factor.
