What did people think of this? I just watched it on MotorsTV live and didnt think it was a great race, got bored about half way in. Last lap was interesting though 
A cracking race for Mansell though and hopefully he can win more races in the series.
Also I didnt like the rolling start, should have been like a proper GP race with the proper start.

I think Emmo had the legs on our Nige, who seemed to keep outbraking himself. Somewhat processional, very dissappointed with Lammers performance, as a current driver, albeit in sportscars. Warwick was hugely entertaining though. My overall impression is that people were bedding themselves in with new cars, opponents that they may have been unfamiliar with, and generally being somewhat cautious (maybe with the exception of Stuck!) If this series does take off next year, I would expect to see greater levels of confidence, leading to more attempted overtaking. Didn't like the rolling start either, but in hindsight may have been the correct way to go, given that Emmo and one other stalled on the grid. Definitely safer, but the sight of smoking tyres at the start of a race is obviously more spectacular.

Emmo won his first Championship as I was taking my O levels - I've watched them all in their heyday and to see them racing again is just fantastic - makes me feel young again! Also this looks a more interesting formula than F1 - bit simpler, no strategy and refuelling and very close racing in the pack. There has been a bit of action in F1 this year, but there have been years recently in F1 with less overtaking and wheel to wheel action than there was in 30 laps of Kyalami today. Also hope I'm as lucid as Murray ( and as alive) when I'm 82
I think you need to watch it on BBC2, Murray provided great entertainment, forgot how times I used to mentally correct his commentary. Emmo and Nigel were great, the battle for 3rd was good value and the irony of Arnoux being taken out because the driver in front didn't check his mirrors wasn't lost on me. For a dry run I was satisfied and look forward to more next year, hope they take an A1GP attitude to ticket prices and I'll be there at Silverstone/Brands (the latter would be sooo much better and far more appropriate to the series)
It may have been processional at first but everyone was bedding in, I think. The last third was pretty good. It was no surprise that the two ex-World Campions in the field were in a class of their own. Warwick was good fun. Fast but erratic.
Still more overtaking and re-overtaking than your average modern GP.
I'm certainly prepared to give this series a chance. Looks hopeful.

De Chesaris was somewhat 'commited' (ahem) with his overtaking moves late in the race. Good entertainment I thought, given that it's the first time many of them have raced for 10 or 15 years. You could see the confidence grow as the race progressed. The last 10 laps were very entertaining IMHO. Hans Stuck was brilliant to watch. On the lockstops through Sunset Bend, climbing all over the kerbs on the exit of slow corners with his foot hard in. Looks promising for next year, and certainly worth a visit to the Silverstone/Brands round provided ticket prices are sensible.
Just brilliant to hear Murray again, really brought the race alive for me. F1 desperately needs him back

I rather enjoyed that, especially the last third. Agree that everyone was bedding in and being cautious at first, but looks like the racing instincts came out in the end. Think perhaps some of the drivers underestimated the performance, so wouldn't surprise me to see a few different faces if/when this happens as a series. Warwick, Stuck and De Ceasaris were good fun. Bring back Saturo Nakajima, that's what I say

Plenty of overtaking towards the end, a bit of wheel-banging and paint-swapping and drivers that genuinely enjoyed themselves.
If they do a GB round then my vote goes to Donington or Brands. NOT Silverstone please.

Good call. Would be great to have them at Donington. Thought the race was fantastic, Enjoyed Murray's comentry, great to hear him again. As a Mansell fan thought it was great and looking forward to next year.
Why do they do that? just as somethings happening on the track the tv director decides to cut to the close shot of somebody watching a monitor in the pits. My guess is that person is just as frustrated as all the viewers that they are missing the action. The last lap today was a perfect example when we missed the crucial moment tha Emmo nearly out braked Nige into the second last corner.
Agree with pretty much all of the above. Thought the first part of the race was very processional and I did think that this whole Masters idea was gonna fall flat on it's fat ar5e. However, the latter part was excellent! De Cesaris drove like I've only ever seen him do in his Jordan year (and possibly in the Group C Lancia) and was great entertainment. Our Nige has obviously been watching the little French guy and taken a leaf out of his 'win as slowly as possible' book. Emmo kept him honest and I thought it was very appropriate the Riccardo Patrese reprised his early '90s role of finishing some distance behind Mansell in equal car...
Seeing Mansell's kids in the pits made me feel bloody old, and I'm only 35! Sorry to go against the anti-Silverstone movement but I'd love to see the GP Masters there next year. A good, wide open circuit will give the old-timers the space to really open up the cars and let us see what they can really do. Mind you, wherever they decide to run the UK round, I'm sure I'll be there. Hopefully there'll be another 10 or so drivers out there to make a really good, full grid.

Re Mansell's kids..
My thoughts exaclty, i'm 35 too and remember them being at races when Nigel was in F1.
As for Silverstone, i'm not "anti" as such. I just feel either Brands or Donington would be a better bet for the paying public. Donington has a better all round view of the track and you get closer to the action at Brands.
Anyway bring it up north, we'll have it at Croft
I have to say, that was great fun, certainly a place for GPM next year..

There was some talk in the build-up of the GPM promoters having talked to Ecclestone wrt GPM being a support race at certain F1 GPs. 
Looking at Silverstone's desire to reduce the number of supported events held there in 2006 onwards it'd be likely it'll go to one of the others if it were to have it's own billing. Would imagint it'd end up being a support act though. Pity really.
As for the race - superb but no more overtaking than you'd see in F1 (although in half the laps!) but for a different reason - driver skill (and rustyness). All cars being equal doesn't mean much overtaking but does mean close racing.
Would be interesting if the proposed wings make it into F1 that actually aid the car behind!
