I have a router with an integrated modem and 2 pc's attached, at the moment all pc's connect to the the internet via the router, is it possible to set all internet traffic to go through one central pc connected to a modem rather than through the router and then allow other pc to access the internet via the server (proxy)?

Yes.

MS Proxy Server or any number of freeware proxies will do this.

Thanks for that, I'll try and get hold of the software. I take it that my anti virus software (Norton) will scan everything that comes through from the web or is this something that needs to be setup, is MS Proxy also good for monitoring site usage etc. Just for info this is all for a home setup.

Standard AV software won't monitor internet traffic, it will only scan files saved to disk. You'd need to find some AV software than can integrate with whichever proxy you end up using.

Ps: One possible disadvantage of doing it that way is that if the other PC's need to access a pop3 email account, that wouldnt generally work straight off in that setup. (They wouldnt be able to connect to their pop3 server). You'd have to investigate what options for pop3 redirection the proxy software has to offer.

The other option is just to use Internet Connection Sharing on the PC with the modem on it, you'l have no probs with pop3 or anything else, but logging options are limited then.

I've got a few proxies going running Squid One in the office here that I'm posting this through which isolates the workbenches and a couple in businesses doing plenty of logging. It's proved very reliable. There's a windows version Here.
