...I've been out of the loop on PC gaming for a couple of years - but recently bought the wife a 'ninja' laptop (for her work). This runs XP. I want to get 2 or 3 mindblowing PC games (for me!) within the next HOUR, so need recommendations.

Has to be action/first peron shooter - not sports or RPG. I want brilliant graphics/animation. Good sound. Fluid gameplay.

Was thinking GTA 3? Any others?

Thanks.

From a first person shooter angle, I'd recommend No One Lives Forever 2 - if it's half as good as the first one, it'll be well worth the asking price.

combat flight simulator 3 or Il 2 Sturmovik (if you like flying sims) or Grand Prix Legends for racing.

Soldier of Fortune 2 is very good.
MOH-AA is a superb WW2 1st person.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is worth a butchers.

This starts pretty slow & boring, but gets a lot better as you go through it, so it's worth persevering.

Another recommendation - Aliens vs Predator 2 is really intense - came out last year, but still an excellent game. Play as a marine, put headphones on, or through a decent speaker system, turn off the lights & get completely immersed! Just like the second Alien film - lots of wandering about through ducts, tunnels etc. - you think nothing is happening & then your tracker starts beeping & all hell breaks loose as aliens come running from all over the place at you.
The multiplayer mode over internet is nowhere near as good as Unreal tournament though.

Try "Serious Sam" 1 or 2 - fantastic graphics, wonderful weapons and brilliant enemies - its Quake with a sense of humour!!

Also Medal of Honour and Castle Wolfenstein are both cracking games

Enjoy

Neal.

UT2003 is excellent, no one mentioned the true PHers game GPL yet!!!.

graig I refused to buy AVP2 seeing as they had a forum saying "okay guys, what do you want?" overwhelmingly the responce was "we want to play through the story as a team"..."okay dokey they say" So they release the game with no team cooperation mode FFS! If you don't have an AVP game yes AVP2 is better but if you already own AVP then don't bother IMHO.

Has anyone got Total Immersion Racing yet if so whats it like I've read that the PC version is a bit arcadey until you change the config file for more realistic physics. Could it be GT car GPL? It looks very similar to the aborted World Sports Cars.

No One Lives Forever 2 - superb
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Deus Ex (slightly older but still good)

Check which graphics card you laptop uses. You may not be able to play some of the games especially the newest releases.
