Help Needed...Flashing TIPTRONIC Light
Discussion
I need some expert advice and hope that someone can help me on this..... I test drove a used 2.5 Boxter (1999) at the weekend with 44k on the clock, however one thing I noticed was that the red tiptronic mode indicator light on the speedometer was "Flashing" when I was in drive, and when manual mode was selected the light just went off instead of displaying what gear I was in.
The car appeared to drive OK, however I called the local Porsche Dealership this morning to ask them and they have just said that it will be OK to drive as the car will have gone in to "Safe Mode"... but it will need to be linked up to diagnostics......
Is this a serious problem or is the car not worth touching ????? I've heard that if the tiptronics go wrong, i'm gona need a small mortgage to get it sorted....

Thanks for the reply......... The only reason I have was considering a TIP was that I drive a lot in the city's and wasnt sure how smooth the manual was.... Didn;t want to end up with a 29 inch calf muscle on my left leg..!!! :-)
The clutch is light and positive on the 2.5 One of the best I have ever driven with. Having said that, i've got a 996 tip now

966.. Well maybe one day
, i'm working up to it!!
It seems that every dealer or even private seller always says that the car is the best no faults....ummmmm
I'm going to try and have a look at a manual over the next week, I guess i'm just being lazy with a tiptronic...
Thanks for your reply anyway...appreciate the help.

IMO either let the owner fix it or find another one, there's loads out there. Have you tried a manual 2.5 yet? The gearbox is an absolute delight.
