Oil Pressure Readings?

Hi, i just got a 4.2 cerbera last month. I noticed the other day that when the car was cold the pressure was 40psi as normal, but when engine is heated up and then on idle it goes down to about 15psi. Also when at 70mph the pressure is just under 40psi and never any higher. I have just changed the oil pressure release spring and new oil and filter but hasn't made any differnce,
Has anybody else had this problem or a solution to fix it?

do you know what grade of oil it's using? this will make a big difference if its 0w40 compared to 15w50.
Might be worth contacting the previous owner just to check ... it might have always been like that or its something serious.
I would probably get the oil pressure relief valve and spring changed just to be sure and maybe get the dealers to check the pressure on a wet guage as the Cerbera may be reading incorrectly

I wouldn't panic, could be the guage under reading or most likely the little valve the spring sits in, is gunked up.
I used to worry about every creak, moan & groan on mine, but after I bit you just get used to them.

it's possible that it's started to run the centre main bearing on the crank i'm rebuilding one at the moment that had the same pressure reading's your getting and it's not the first either, a new spring should get you 60psi + on a good engine, normally if the valve stick's you don't get a pressure change it stays the same it could still be a gauge fault though, don't leave it get it checked asap

Just saw your car on your profile. I was trying to negotiate a deal with the seller but they wanted a bit more than I was willing to part with.
Mine (also a 4.2)is around 50psi on cold start, 40psi when warm and at 70mph but doesn't drop below 30psi when sitting in traffic for a long time. Mine is running 0-40 Mobil 1 and is a 56k miler engine. Suggest yours definitely needs investigating.

These were the same as my readings before the spring and valve were changed.
'96 car - 30k engine.
90 - cold start
70 - warmed up / 70mph
80 to 85 - right foot down
30 - hot idle
Suggest you have a look at the valve as well and either remove gunk or replace.
