Cam replacement

Well, following on from my earlier post about the ticking sound, I took it down to Leven Tech today and it looks like my cams gone 
Pretty fed up right now, thought I'd bought a really decent car, but it looks like I was wrong. Anyway, not a lot of point worrying about it, so I'm trying to put a positive spin on this...
Seen as I'm going to get stung for the best part of £1500 or more for a replacement cam, are there any options out there for a performance cam of some sort? I figure that I may as well try and get something out of this apart from just a replacement standard part.
Anyone have any suggestions, or have any opinions on whether this is a good idea or not?

Sorry to hear about you problems, i too have had the similar problems recently.
I was recommended the MC1 cam which is a V8D design it gives similar top end performans to the wild their 404H cam that many have fitted but without the lumpy low rev range that some(but not all)have experienced with it.
I am still running my engine in as mine turned into a total rebiuld so can't say can't compare it yet, but i have a feeling its gonna good'n. Even after 300 miles the engine is really smooth and i can feel that there is going to be plenty of torque there when i am finally able to open her up.
My choice was based on overall driveability, i want a powerful car but not at the expense of whiplash in traffic jams.

As with any repair price is relative to the specific car and how far the owner wants to go. A cam shaft is approximatly £150 (plus VAT) and so is a relativly small part of the overall cost. It is all the other parts and labour that adds up if a comprehensive job is to be done.
I couldn't agree more, and in fairness to yourselves the price I was quoted was the same, if not cheaper, than all of the other TVR specialists I contacted in my area. My problem was that having only just bought the car, I'm a tad short on the old reddies, the joys of sports car ownership!
No offence was intended, so apologies if any was taken, I will be in touch soon though for some more toys for the car!

Sorry to hear that is the cam thats gone - on the plus side its a common problem on the V8 so hopefully it doesn't indicate anything else is wrong.
Also, once you have your problems sorted (and this is the best time of year to get them done) then next spring/summer you will have a solid car with looks superb, in that moonraker black, to enjoy that won't need anytime off the road.

Cheers Martin, I'm taking it up to TorqueTVR tomorrow morning, so fingers crossed it's nothing too serious. I'm hoping to get a few other things sorted out while it's there, so that as you say come summer it'll be sorted. Might even see if I can get my exhaust sorted to compete with yours on the next tunnel run!

Are you/they absolutely sure it's the cam? (not questioning your/their judgement but curious to know more about this issue).
The guys who initially inspected it were 80% sure it is, but it's going to be stripped down tomorrow to make sure. The car's already had a replacement Cam in it's life, and it's only done 50k, so if it has gone again then I'll be a little worried that something more serious is wrong.
