Wet Feet!

Been wondering for a long while why my drivers side carpet mat was always wet.

I have had my dealer look at the leaking windows many a time. Passenger side window still leaks but drivers one was cured ages ago.

I removed the mat at the weekend and now the drivers side carpet is wet so it looks like i've got a leak somewhere. I've felt around the carpet and can't work out where it's coming from. Best guess would be it's actually coming up instead of down - if that makes sense.

Any ideas to avoid another pain in the arse trip to the dealer?

Might be a random distraction, but I had this once and it took me ages to track it down It was in an Escort It turned out to be entering the engine bay and running down the clutch cable. Worth a check.

Edit: Yes, I know the engine's at the back etc, but it was a general bulkhead type coment

The Cerbera's used to leak around the master cylinder through the bulkhead. Worth seeing if it's getting in around that area?

It may be from the heater box. My left leg kept getting wet. I thought it was all the excitement but turned out to be the heater box. There should be a pipe on the heater box which drains water onto the road. Mave didn't have one. Check the carpet on the side of the tunnel. If that is wet then you have probably found the problem

I drove through a massive puddle at brunters last w/end (real speedboat job!) ... ended up with wet carpets all over! (mind you it was about 8" deep ). Pretty sure it came through around the undertray and through the hole where the multichanger used to be bolted to the floor.

Thanks, is this easy enough to spot and fix?

It's a bit of a pain to do. My local garage thought they would have to take the windscreen out !

Basically its a bit of clambering about inside the car and the heater box can be removed. There should be a neck coming off the side of the box attached to which is the pipe leading down onto the road. Mine didn't have the neck or pipe so they had to fabricate a neck onto the box and fit a pipe. Not sure if the boxs comes out through the car or from underneath but the factory were ( as usual) very helpful in explaining what was needed.
I take it the side of the footwell is wet?

I had/have exactly the same.
Just got back from the dealer after......
rear window taken out and refitted,
pedal box resealed,
passenger & drivers door adjusted.

Hopefully once the carpet finally dries out i'll find out if this has resolved the "leak."
i'll let you know!!

I certainly hope that this is not the case because my car is out of feckin warranty. I really wish I had pointed this issue out while my car was in warranty but unfortunately I just assumed it was water I was dragging into the car.

All these niggles are starting to get right on my t1ts!

Cracked front manifold
Drivers seat leather poor
Handbrake - repaired every five minutes!
Gear selection - reverse and first are becoming optional !
Windscreen wipers - not spraying onto screen
Drivers footwell - soaking!
Engine bay rattle and knocking noise

Sorry to read this Lucozade, I know these things are very frustrating (especially when they gang up on you!) - perhaps change your service centre and start again (a new set of eyes and ears and all that) - stick with it, you know it'll be worth it in the end!

Cheers buddy, I only have the option of one service center unfortunately and the factory is too far for these kind of niggles.

Considering throwing the towel in - I got more important things to concentrate life on than getting my car fixed every month - no matter what car it is.
